Iron Transfusion?

So I have been anemic since I was born and taken rx iron supplements even with them my iron has always been low but still in the okay range. I had a daughter 6 years ago with no complications my iron dropped some but not bad. I'm now pregnant again at 29 weeks. It's been low the whole time, when we retested it last week Dr said I might need a transfusion. Until my next appointment in 2 weeks for me to double up on the iron I'm taking now.
Has anyone else had a transfusion while preg. I understand how it works and it's not a big deal normally but since I'm pregnant I don't know how that changes things.

  • I had to do 4 rounds of iron infusions at 26 weeks. Being pregnant doesn't change it any. In fact, I have found doing the infusions while pregnant is easier on my body. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  • My cousin had several iron transfusions during her second pregnancy and said they made her feel a whole lot better! She said the last transfusion they gave her a long-acting iron injection called Ferroject that lasts months after birth. maybe worth enquiring with the doc!
  • I plan on talking to my Dr about it at my appointment but since that's not until tomorrow now I was just trying to get an idea of if anyone else had done this and how it helped/hurt them and the baby. Because when he told me a couple weeks ago I was shocked and didn't know what to ask or say until after I'd left and had time to think about it.
Thank you for yalls responses though that does make me feel better :)
