High Chair Question

I've lurked on the boards before posting the question and couldn't find anything specifically on the topic of high chair wheels. How important is is to have wheels on the high chair? I'm trying to decide which high chair to register for, and I really like the look of the oxo tot or the summer infant wooden chairs. However, my mom and sister said that I "have to have the wheels on the chair." What are all of your opinions?

We just have one of the hook on ones that take a spot at the table, so I say not at all. It's nice if you plan to use it in multiple locations (my parents have a breakfast type table and a dining table, so the wheels help) but definitely not necessary.
The only thing I can think of that would make wheels nice is that they wouldn't tip when they learn to kick off the table, just slide back. I wouldn't decide based on that though, since it's a pretty short phase if you teach them not to push off.

Mine has wheels and its convenient for moving it around, but I don't think it's necessary. Maybe wheels would be more needed on carpet though? We converted to the one that straps to the table chair pretty quickly because of our small kitchen space.

I'm a FTM but I feel like any child of mine would make something that tall on wheels into a hazard, possibly by kicking herself away from the table but honestly, I'm sure I couldn't even dream of the shenanigans. The only advice I've gotten on high chairs was from my sister, who suggested plastic over wood because they're easier to clean.

Mine doesn't have wheels and it's been fine for us so far. I also have one that hooks onto a chair . Makes it easier to feed baby while I'm eating.

The high chair advice I've gotten from mommy friends is ease of cleaning. Try to avoid chairs with lots of nooks and crannies - ones that are one solid piece (and plastic) are easy to clean - and just take a hose to outside even

That being said, we have room for a full-size chair at our house and will sometimes have baby in the dining room, sometimes in the kitchen by the island... wheels made sense to us for ease of movement.

I have the kind that clips on to a regular chair, so wheels are not a must have IMO.

I seriously didn't even know until opening this thread that wheels were an option, and this is my sixth. So I'm going to say they're not necessary, and I agree with @AmadorRose that they could probably be a hazard,depending on the kid.

I also have one you just put onto a regular chair. We really like it - easy to clean and extremely portable. We could take it with us out to eat when she wasn't ready for a restaurant high chair. We could also move it around the house with us and literally put it in the sink for cleaning. It's by Fischer price and far less expensive and bulky than a standard high chair.

Whatever you do, don't get a used Fisher Price Space Saver if it's older than 2012 -- they have remodeled it since then but mine is annoying because in order to clean the lap straps you have to take the whole damn thing apart.

We actually have a wheels on our high chair--it's convenient because we roll ours away from the table when DD1 isn't eating and to the kitchen when we're in there cooking/cleaning. I think whether wheels are convenient (they certainly aren't necessary) just depends on how you plan to use it.

I don't have previous experience with this, but my plan is to see if someone buys us one for a baby shower gift ( I don't have one on the registry) & use whatever that would be or get this one from ikea if not. I have one with wheels but I've never actually wheeled it anywhere, so I guess that feature was pretty pointless for me. Totally agree about getting one that's easy to clean though. Whatever you get, just imagine it covered in sick. It will happen, and the last thing you want is to be unthreading three puke covered straps through 50 different layers of unnecessary padding. I loved my Graco Blossom...until that happened

Ours has wheels on the front and collapses for storage. It's a Fisher Price easy clean one. We use the wheels to move it outside in the summer (without the kid in it). Otherwise, we don't use the wheels. My favorite feature of our chair is the rubber/plastic straps- they clean up so easily! The fabric cover comes off easily and can be tossed in the washing machine. Half the time we use it without the cover. I would definitely base your decision on ease of cleaning- babies are messy eaters.

FWIW, I love our chicco hook on. Takes up no space, easy to clean, easy to transport. DD still uses it at 4 (she's petite).

Never heard of high chairs on wheels before. I got the IKEA one for when we visit my mom as it can be taken apart and stored away in her basement. We will have the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair which can be used throughout the child's life with the newborn set and the toddler set. Everyone here has one so I didn't do a lot of thinking with this one.

All of our highchairs have had wheels and they are very convenient. We tend to have baby/toddler start eating while we are still meal prepping for the older guys or ourselves so it's nice to be able to easily turn/move them with us throughout the kitchen/eating areas.They aren't a necessity though, just nice to have IMO. They do lock if you wish so baby can't really push themselves away from the table and such.

We got an Oxo, it does not have wheels and you can use it as a high chair and also as a seat. We loved it and used it until DD was able to sit in a regular chair.

Don't babies move into high chairs when you start weaning? If so, that'll be about 6 months in so I wasn't planning on buying the high chair until then......?

@jkeezy That's exactly what we did. We didn't buy a high chair until DS was 5 months or so. Ours has wheels and it locks. Worked great for us.

I want a stokke but haven't seen a bar height one. They are my favorite.

Thanks for all of the opinions everyone!! @jkeezy You are right, we won't need one until later but I was thinking about registering for one so I wouldn't have to buy it later. However, it's so hard to decide which one when I do not actually have the baby right now! Decisions, decisions...

Ours has wheels and it's big piece of junk. The wheels haven't worked since we bought it. The kids felt it was a toy to ride on. Wheels are useless, imo.

Im getting the chair that is a seat that straps onto a regular dining room chair. I figured that would take up way less space. So no wheels for me! Why would a high chair need wheels anyway?

We had a fancy one when DS started using one and honestly I regret getting it. We ended up going to ikea and getting the one they have. It is SO easy to clean! I am kind of a neat freak and the cushion ones were just too dirty. Food got in places I didn't think possible.

We also have a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair and love it. Found it in the scratch and dent section of Buy Buy Baby for a deal! We love this chair because it pushes up pretty flush with our dining table and is easy to clean. The additional tray pops on and off for easy cleaning. We still have the infant/toddler insert in, but hoping to transition it to a regular chair someday soon.

We have a Stokke Tripp Trapp and have loved it. It's very easy to wipe down. We didn't get the tray, and have just always fed DS at the table, and have removed the infant straps now that he's two. I think we're going to get a 2nd one so the toddler can keep using his, although getting a booster is another option.
