Acid Reflux Cure

edited January 2016 in February 2016 Moms
The past 2 weeks I have been having that annoying burning feeling in my throat after particular meals, expecially dinner. After researching... for me, I found that eating a red apple knocks it right out of the way! I'm sure there are other good tips out there too so please share them if you have any as I may not always have a red apple on hand.

  • For me, milk usually does the trick. Water itself gives me acid reflux, so that's out lol it tends to be the worst when I'm laying down to sleep at night so I chew two Tums (when it's really bad, other wise I try not to take them even though they are harmless) and follow that with some milk. Usually helps me out!
  • @RissKay Thanks!

@summererdvig I'll have to try using my almond milk sometimes, I like having alternatives. Yesss, night time is the worst!

  • Omeprazole/Prilosec it is OTC and OB approved takes the problem away
  • I had heartburn prior to the pregnancy and never thought it could get worse than it used to be. WRONG

You may already know this but just in case, try cutting out or reducing your intake of: caffeine, mints of any kind, tomato based products, juices, etc -anything that may have a higher acidic content.

I try to drink some milk when it's really bad and some people say bananas help but they don't for me.
  • Zantac in the morning (I took it daily as a precaution).  I would also eat stuff from the BRAT diet (No bananas!  Rice, applesauce and toast/bread) when it would start to kick in minus the bananas because they do cause acid reflux.  Tums also helped too.

  • Pepcid and tums.
  • Water is the worst trigger for me. Tums all day everyday lol
  • Zantac, milk and gum!
  • I've written / tried almost all of this. I tried the apples today, so far nothing. So hopefully this is the cure! I think even my body is in strike at this point. Almost 36 weeks! Which is almost 40! Which means I'm almost done!
  • @funkypineapple The mints def. dont help! I learned the hard way. Thanks for the advice.

I've never heard of that!! I'll probably look it up so I don't create a more painful mixture. But the apples are treating me well right now! I'm hoping not to jinx it.. This is the time when it usually flares up.
  • Omeprazole and Maalox.
  • I ate sour skittles tonight and they knocked the reflux right out of me! Random I know but I'm not complaining :)
  • A little baking soda and water.. and tums tums tums..

Baking soda is not advised for pregnant women.

The only cure for pregnancy related heartburn and acid reflux is birth.

  • Not sure if it's safe during pregnancy, but papaya is really good for heartburn, etc. and they have some tablets that are actually pretty tasty! I wish I could remember the brand . . . they come in a dark green bottle/dark green label . . .
  • I tried peppermint tea last night and it took a while but by the time I went to sleep it was gone.
  • @thisusername I hope at least one or both works for you!

  • Its all dietary for me, no more tomato sauce, not alot of bread, no soda etc, heres a chart of acidic versus alkaline foods, avocados help alot!
  • Cider vinegar. Take a big old swig. It's rough but it will take care of reflux.

This chart shows which foods may swing a blood PH. It is questionable, because blood is a buffer system which keeps it's PH at the same level in order for chemical reactions to happen. Anyways, look for foods which stimulate acid production in the stomach. It is usually coffee, undiluted fruit juices, meat stocks and stews, spicy foods.
Baking soda is not recommended because it neutralizes all acid and we still need some
  • zantec and chocolate milk are my BFFs

I take 2 rolaids before I eat. Wait about 30 minutes after I eat and chew on 2 more and drink a cold can of Sprite! It is literally the only way I can eat anything anymore
