gender reveal idea?

edited January 2016 in May 2016 Moms
So I have this idea for the big reveal and I was wondering if its a good idea or not!
We want to go to build a bear and make a bear based on the gender and take pictures or a video of my husband and I pulling the bear out revealing the gender. Anyone have any ideas or advice?

Re: gender reveal idea?

  • Sounds cute to me! We did balloons in a box and our son opened it. A bear would add some extra pizazz :)

  • I'm not a big fan of gender reveals in general, but anything involving cuddly bears gets a thumbs up from me
  • Do you know the gender? If you don't yet, have someone else make the bear, I'm sure the people that work there would love too lol...it is a very good idea. It seems that others want to see your reaction, more than knowing themselves.
  • I did just that! well, my friend did. She bought me a Build A Bear and the box was opened at a party to reveal our baby's gender! The baby was dressed in a basketball jersey of the San Antonio Spurs - hence, a little boy. The cake was also filled with blue frosting so as to further the point (for those who didn't get it, lol).
  • Sounds cute!

As a note, reveals may not always go the way you hope. There have already been posts where the SO is super hoping for one gender or the other, but it can be equally awkward if the grandparents to be have a deep seated preference.

At my reveal, there was silence as everyone waited for the reaction from MIL & FIL. Finally an aunt said that we'll just have to try again for a girl. The best (only) line MIL could come up with was that they know how to handle boys. Needless to say, it was a somewhat disappointing evening.
  • @proudparent2b I was so afraid of that at our gender reveal. It was Christmas morning so I was worried that MH was going to be mopey all day. He had made it pretty clear that he wanted another boy, but I had a feeling that this one is a girl. When we opened the box and the pink balloons came out, I held my breath, but the look on MH's face was totally worth it! He was so happy! Luckily, my mom and sisters were the only ones there (I know for a fact that my MIL would prefer if we had a boy) so it was happy all around, but had it involved my MIL, I know there would've been some real awkwardness. I am sorry it was like that for you, but I think it is good to have realistic expectations about how some people may react...it could be surprising (either good or bad).
