Morning sickness...

I am a bit worried.  This is my first pregnancy and I really haven't had any sickness.  There are some things that have made me a little nauseous, but not sick. My sister had horrible horrible morning sickness so I was certain mine as well would be bad.  I haven't have my first ultrasound yet so every morning I wake up nervous that something is wrong.  If anyone has any advise that would be amazing!!

Re: Morning sickness...

  • Morning sickness varies from person to person.  I know people who were so sick that they needed medication and hospitalization in their first trimester, and others who had no illness at all -- both ended up with healthy babies.  I generally have nausea, but do not vomit.  Symptoms really don't have all that much correlation to the health of your baby-- I had symptoms right up to and after my recent loss.  I can't give you much advice, but good luck at your first ultrasound.  I hope baby is developing normally. :)

  • Symptoms (or lack thereof) mean nothing about the viability or health of your pregnancy. I recommend reading the many, many other threads that are about this exact same topic if you need further reassurance.

  • Most of the women in my family only experience morning sickness when they're pregnant with girls (granted, every single one of them had a girl first, and then nothing but boys, so you could argue they only had it in their first pregnancy). That said, any subsequent pregnancies, they were absolutely fine with zero symptoms. My mom tells me that the only symptom she had with my brother was that she craved Mexican food a lot. Lol. Just enjoy this sickness-free time. Personally, I haven't gotten sick, but I am nauseous a lot and it's a real bummer!!

@1faceinacrowd my mom told me similar things.  When she had my brother (first) she wasn't sick at all.  When she had me, she had horrible morning sickness.  I currently haven't had any.  My stomach hurts a little bit if I let myself get too hungry but that's it.

  • @l9i I was constantly nauseous with my daughter for the first trimester and I'm the same this time too, so I'll be curious to see the gender of this one!

@1faceinacrowd I can't really compare since this is my first, but I'm happy to not have the nausea!  Now hopefully the labors are a predictor of mine as well... both hers were quick lol

  • Not only is every person different, but every pregnancy is different. Some people have horrible MS with one baby and then have no MS with the next.

My mom had strong MS (or morning, noon, and night sickness as she calls it) throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy and so far, I've had no vomiting.

  • My husband's Mom not only had no morning sickness, but she didn't have a single pregnancy symptom the first four months such that she didn't realize she was pregnant until she was four months along, and my husband (her baby) turned out just fine! And, my Mom says she only had two days of morning sickness with each of her three kids, and all were born happy, healthy (but loud) babies!

Yet, here I am, feeling pukey all day long and on morning sickness remedy #500, and the last ultrasound at 7.5 weeks looked fine.

So, I'd say a daily prayer baby is okay, and thank God that you don't feel awful all day, every day.

  • Like PPs have said, just be thankful you're having an easy first trimester. I, too, had hardly any nausea with my first and this one is proving to be similar so far. You might just be one of those people who doesn't get morning sickness! Embrace it!

  • I agree that sickness can vary so much! With my first, I had morning sickness only during the first trimester and ONLY first thing in the morning.  As long as I ate something the second I woke up, I was fine.  With this one, I had all day sickness from weeks 5-7.  Now it's more evening sickness than anything.  No puking...just constant nausea.  For now just enjoy the fact that you feel okay and good luck at your first appointment!

  • I had literally no morning sickness the first time around, this time is the polar opposite...wish I could be so lucky again!!!!

  • So jealous:( enjoy not being sick! EVERYTHING that has a scent makes me gag and I vomit several times a day.
  • Sickness for sure can vary. I am only have a little bit of stomach issues. I was feeling Werid as everyone around me kept talking about how super sick they were. Talked to my doctor and she said it was just fine because everyone is different.
  • At 10 weeks 3 days, I vomited for the first time, I couldn't believe it! I had been trying to wean off Diclegis to see if I was improving (but was only nauseous before, not sick sick), and missed at least one day; won't do that again. Thankfully I was at home and not at work, and I had the time to recover.
