Infertility

Supplements before IVF?

Does anyone have a good list of supplements for me to take before starting IVF?

I'm 36, a successful egg donor in my 20's, clear U/S, normal blood work & hormone levels, regular cycles and ovulation, no genetic factors.

We have been TTC for 4.5 years and just found out husband has 1% motility. (all other results are good). He is 40 y/o, and I have started him on a regimen of Theralogix ConceptionXR Motility Support Formula, Omega-3, Multi-vitamin, Ubiquinol (CoQ10), Vitamin C and Zinc.

For us, everything is out of pocket because we have commercial insurance, and even though Infertility coverage is mandated here in Massachusetts-commercial policies are excluded from that. So we are trying to do everything we can to increase our chances of having a successful IVF cycle. Thank you!

Re: Supplements before IVF?

  • I'd suggest talking to your RE first, but I'm on DHEA, CoQ10, vitamin D, prenatals, and TCM herbs (prescribed by acupuncturist recommended by my RE, with locally sourced herbs). My protocol is based on my DOR diagnosis, though.

You might want to read "It Starts with an Egg," for information on what studies show might or might not help with egg health. Based on that, I've given up alcohol and caffeine. Studies are inconclusive, but there's enough out there for me to go for it. I'm also limiting sugar (or trying to).
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Also, be careful with the DHEA. If you look at your blood work and it's low, then talk to your doctor about maybe taking it. If it's really high like mine (511!) then it could do more harm than good. CoQ10 is one that I'm curious about. @KLake42 did your doctor say that helps with egg quality?

  • @RipleyLV426, my doctor prescribed both the DHEA and CoQ10 because of my DOR.  Yes, CoQ10 is supposed to help with egg quality, and is supposed to be particularly helpful with DOR, since it helps protect against the decreased egg quality you get with age.

  • I have also read "It Starts With the Egg". I highly recommend it.

I take a PNV, folic acid, Vit D (proven deficiency), krill oil, and I just recently started taking CaQ10 (ubiquinol).

  • @KLake42 I will ask our RE Wed about coq10. DW has low AMH and we think it is due to the endometrioma on her ovary, she is only 28. I wonder if it will still work since our ER is Feb 5? It doesn't seem like enough time to start working.

RE DX for me: Anovulatory cycles/Mild PCOS  RE DX for DW: Endometrioma on left Ovary.
Reciprocal Ivf Feb 2016. DW eggs and I am carrying. EDD: 10/27/16

  • Our supplements have been listed above but our RE also has my wife on a ketosis diet. It's said to reduce inflammation which will help especially with implantation. Our RE says he's having a lot of success with women on a ketosis diet getting pregnant in our clinic.

  • Boo, i had a big list from my RE that I think she gives to all patients, but I can't find it :(

I don't remember all the dosages, but I took a prenatal, vitamin C and E, 1000 mg L-Arginine (I may have taken that 2x daily, can't remember), 3 mg melatonin, and 800 mg (yup, that high) CoQ10.

My RE said I could choose what I'd like to take, but she said definitely do a prenatal and the CoQ10
