Ladies- any sure fire ways to rid this cough?! I'm opposed to taking any OTC drugs; however, am big on essential oils, natural remedies, etc! Best options?!?
I got a sore throat, blocked nose with yellow mucus at 35 weeks. My dr did prescribe safe antibiotics for me and it went away about 2 weeks later..
I am now 38w5d and about 2 nights ago my opposite nostril got blocked but its just white mucus so dr says its nothing to be concerned about as i have no sore throat. I am just sticking with honey lemon tea...
Frustrating thing is dr wants to recommend inducing me tuesday next week because my placenta has calcified quite a bit so if baby doesn't come in her own time, i hope at least this blocked nose and mucus has disappearn as i clearly won't be in the mood to deal with a newborn
I'm finally getting over a cold, at 38+4. It was awful. My saving grace was those breathe right nasal strips. They helped me breath the moment i put one on. They're medicine free. Seriously, go buy a pack. Those and hot tea with honey and lemon
I got my first sickness of my pregnancy at 41w. Vitamin C overload and neti pot is helping a lot! It's only taken me down for about 36 hours and I'm already feeling better. Good luck!
My 2 year old and I both have colds I've been doing tea and honey to soothe my throat and saline nasal spray for congestion. Tylenol for fever/pain but I haven't needed that yet.
The neti pot is great for keeping nasal passages and sinuses clear, so it's not draining into your chest. Also, I've diffused Thieves for cough caused by chest congestion and had some limited success with it helping to break up the congestion. Unfortunately there are no "sure fire" ways to getting over a cough, especially if you are opposed to OTC or prescription meds. I'm on the verge of a cold right now and am not looking forward to it AT ALL. Hope you feel better soon!
I've had a cough for months now...I swear I will cough this baby out! I also had a cough when DD was born and I think I busted a stitch after she was born. It wasn't fun. And I think cough drops were all I could take which I don't even do that anymore.
I tried fighting the cold on my own. It didn't go so well. I was miserable, even after using only Vicks vapor rub and hot tea. Hubby finally bought sudafed a few days ago. At 38+5, it made being sick and pregnant not suck so much.
@juju0592 I gave into sudafed tonight too! I'm being induced in the morning and this congestion will just not let me get the rest I need. Midwife said it was fine, and I feel so.much.better. Huzzah for modern medicine sometimes!
@jagerjl If you are into oils and have access to some.. I like to diffuse Thieves along with diluted drops on massaged onto the soles of both feet before bed. I like to netti pot as well, and run a humidifier every chance you can. That along with a lemon ginger tea has kept me off medications for colds for at least 2 years now.
Oh my gosh, me too! It's awful! I have been using the nettipot a couple times a day to keep things cleaned out. I have to be careful with cold medicines because I don't handle them well when I'm not pregnant. My doctor said I can use afrin nasal spray and zicam nasal spray. I have used each a couple times over the last three days just so I can dry up some of this mucus. Today, I'm just using the nettipot still and am starting to feel much better! This cold wouldnt have been too bad if I wasn't 8 1/2 months pregnant! It knocked me on butt though.
