Rolling Baby

Is anyone else putting baby down to sleep on their backs and within minutes baby has rolled to their side? I told the pedetrician at the hospital that it looked like she would be able to roll soon and he said once she is less fetal position with her body it will be harder, yet sure enough we are on day 5 and within minutes she is on her side. Going to ask my pedetrician at appointment on Monday but is anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Rolling Baby

  • Yep. Since 3 days old my LO has been rolling to her side! We don't swaddle her arms so that they are there to catch her from rolling to her tummy. We always place her on her back and let her roll herself over so she's in a position natural to her. Pediatrician told us it's totally fine.

  • Still pregnant over here, but we took some classes and have a friend who's kid did this...both at the class and our friend's pediatrician said if they can get to that position, they can get out of it so nothing to worry about. Just put them back on their back if you can do so without disrupting their sleep. :)
  • Yep. My son has always been a side sleeper. Since we brought him home from the hospital. My pedi said if he does it himself to leave him.
  • From the dec board.. It's totally fine :) my nurse at the hospital actually put her on her side before even a day old. I was a little nervous at first but since then baby always prefers being on her side. I'll usually put her on her back still and let her roll to which side she likes.
  • Yes! One of my twins does this - we call her a little shrimp because she curls herself up and rolls to her side. We have seen her stretch out and get back to her back though. Our midwife says she won't roll to her stomach yet and there's nothing to be concerned about.
