Can I nurse the majority of the day? Give formula 1-2 times a day and pump when I do that? And maybe give 1 bottle of breast milk? I'm so undecided as to what I want to do. My baby couldn't latch on so I pumped 5-6 times a day but never made enough so he had my milk and formula 2-3 bottles. But I hear with breastfeeding the baby empties the breast better than the pump? After a pumping session there was only 1 oz left.. I'm 16 weeks and just tried breast feeding this month everyday just once and it went well. So yesterday I did it 7 times and he seemed happy and satisfied he was on me tho for 30 mins and then 45 mins later I was concerned he didn't get Enuf so gave him breastmilk by bottle he had 7 oz now did
He really need that? Usually he has 30-35 total with 16-18 being beeastmilk give or take and the rest formula. See at the boob u can't measure how much he is getting... But if he was still hungry he would cry etc right? And let me know? I know
If I give him a bottle usually 4-6oz but if he's done a 4 and wants more he will scream. I had a scare at the beginning being a new mom thought he was breastfeeding and he was downn15 percent and they said to pump and supplement...not sure what the issue was back then? So I wanna breastfeed but I'm scared and even tho I only get 14-18 a day that doesn't mean that's all that's in my boob right? Cuz that wouldn't fill my baby. So right now i pump 4-5 times a day if I continue to breastfeed do I just pump when I give a bottle?
Re: Nursing question how often to pump when nursing and giving bottles
If he was happy after nursing and had enough wet/ dirty diapers, I'd say he got enough. He may want to nurse more frequently than you have bottles (like every 1-2 hours instead of every 3) but that's ok- it'll help build your supply to meet his needs.
I'd go see an LC and do a weighted feed to know how much he's getting. Your health insurance may cover it. I had to pay out of pocket when I went but got reimbursed.
