(posted this also on july board because im between boards dd 7/6 but since im csec I will be end of june)

Anyone else suffering with SPD? I had it with my first pregnancy (DS just turned 4), I had a awesome easy pregnancy except for my pelvis hurt, I struggled with tasks like getting in and out of bed, lifting leg to get dressed, rolling over in bed (hubby had to help), anything really the required one leg to lift :( I ended up having a csec cause I was afraid of permanent damage. SPD is where the hormone "relaxin" which is produced to help your pevis soften to stretch is over produced. I would be walking and sometimes i would stumble because my pelvis would slip it was realy painful. I wore a support band (the type made for post partum,) it helped that I had almost no bump, even at 9 months! (I carried in back)

I am 14w4d and having a identical pregnancy no problems at all til three days ago til I started to fee the signs, just in three days the issues are all coming back :( going to baby store today to get a hip stablizer band... I sleep with a pillow between knees to allign pelvis and I will start elevating my legs again at work :(

Anyone else go through this before or going through it now? Or wearing a support band for any reason? Thank you!

  • I experienced SPD during my last pregnancy. Like you, my first pregnancy was a breeze, and then with #2, SPD happened. I had to sit on the floor to get dressed because lifting my leg was excruciating, not to mention everything else that required lifting one leg at a time. My midwife gave me one of those big, elastic belly support bands, but it didn't help much. I eventually purchased a belt made specifically for SPD and it made a little bit of a difference. https://www.amazon.com/Symphysis-Maternity-Belt-Standard-Size/dp/B00KQSM982

Hopefully you find a band that offers some relief!

  • Thank you! I am nervous about it getting worse. Its funny all morning (been up since two with insomnia lol) trying to remember how spd effected me im slowly remembering more that i could climb stairs or step into stuff bath was hard, etc its like i have blocked out the experience lmao
  • I had SPD last time, too. It started in 3rd tri, but my OB told me to expect it to be worse and start sooner. I've had twinges here and there and I was sore for two days after an eleven hour road trip over the holidays.

I haven't worn a support band before, but I planned to look into them.

  • I had this with my last (second) pregnancy, and this pregnancy it showed up at like 9 weeks. Uncool, SPD. Uncool. I did some reading that suggested that it will basically escalate until delivery, so I've taken some steps already to mitigate my discomfort by avoiding things that seem to exacerbate it, like excessive walking and the fencing I do. Basically anything that involves pronounced shifts of weight from one leg to another I am trying to limit. I haven't yet gotten a support band, but I might head that direction soon. It doesn't seem to have gotten much worse in the last 6-8 weeks, which is encouraging, but I have a whole 3rd Trimester left to go, sooooo.
