Baby carriers

Hey mamas, I thought a topic on baby carriers would be a good one. I have a boba wrap and an infantino structured carrier but come the new year I'm going to be purchasing a better one. I'm currently looking at the becco baby soseil 2. But I also want one that is breathable and that won't keep me and baby hot in the summer heat. What carriers do you have or want to try? Any recommendations? I've also heard good reviews on the lillebaby.

I've got a few carriers. I really like the Mai Tei. However, check out Baby Wearing International. They have chapters all over. You can go to their meetings and try out carriers for free. If you join, which is like 30 bucks a year you can borrow them from their carrier library.

  • I heart my ergo 360. The infant insert is a little hot, but they only need it until they have neck control. After that it can do multiple positions and is good for up to 30lbs.
  • I love my Becco Gemini, LO has been it since he was 2weeks old and he loves it, usually he falls asleep after being in it for a few minutes and doesn't seem to get too hot, it can do 4 positions and doesn't require a newborn insert!
  • I have the ergo 360 and a boba wrap. I agree the ergo infant insert is hot and therefore I don't use it much. I can see myself using it a ton once she gets a little bigger, along with my boba.
  • I won a Tula. I didn't buy the infant insert so I am waiting for DD2 to weight enough to use it. I put DD1 (30lbs) and loved it. I just carried her through the house before she wanted down.
  • I use the ergo 360, we keep our house pretty cool and lo naps in it w the insert daily. She hasnt overheated yet.
  • I also have a boba and an ergo 360- like PP said, my LO sweats like crazy in the infant insert so we just use the boba for now.

I've heard great things about the Lillebaby all seasons for the heat. It's got mesh in some areas.
I have a boba 3G I loved for my daughter. And I just got a Tula. I didn't like the way the ergo fit me as compared to the others. But we have one of those too.
  • I have a Boba wrap under the tree (so excited!), a Infantino soft structured carrier, and a Tula carrier. I love love my tula! I don't have the infant insert as we bought it when my oldest was 16 months old and the infantino was no longer comfy to carry her in. I think the tula carrier is worth every penny and I cannot wait to use it with Cora!
  • For those of you who don't like the insert in the ergo- use a rolled up receiving blanket under their butt instead. It works just as well as will keep them cooler.
  • I have a k'tan and I like it reasonably well. It's a bit tight, so putting the baby in can be a bit tricky, but once he is there he loves it and I find it convenient.
  • IN LOVE with the Boba wrap! Seriously could be a spokes person for them lol

I have one (don't know what it's called)but actually a lady at the store stopped me and reccomended the lillebaby one. She said it's awesome and she's had a few different kinds. I don't use mine too much but she did say they're kind of pricey but worth it. So maybe.
  • I have a Tula and Lenny Lamb SSC and a kokadi wrap. I love my tula and have owned several. My wrap is more comfy around the house. Ring slings are great too

  • I have the ergo 360 and a mei tai. With both, I use a rolled up receiving blanket as a seat, and she loves it. (She couldn't stand going frog-legged in the mei tai.) The ergo has better head support and stays tight longer, so it's good for when I walk the dog. Doing chores around the house, I prefer the mei tai. It is cooler, and it's quicker to get properly asjusted (though it needs regular re-adjusting, which is easy to do).

I was recommended the Moby as being the most comfy, but I haven't tried it yet.
  • I have the lillebaby airflow which is all layered mesh.  I love it and so does Bridget.  It's been in the 80's here this winter and little one has gotten a bit hot in it, but not nearly as bad as she would have in a carrier without airflow.  I've got a very petite narrow frame and the lillebaby works well on me with the arm straps crossed over my back in an X position.  My partner is much broader and it works for him with the arm straps backpack style.  It has excellent back support.  There is a lot of flexibility in how you wear it and I love that it goes from 7 - 45lbs. My daughter just graduated from the froggy position to the more traditional inward facing position.  In time she can also be carried facing front, on hip, and on my back in it.

I second trying to find a Babywearing international group near you.  You can join for a nominal fee and try as many carriers/wraps as you like until you fall in love with something.  https://babywearinginternational.org/about-bwi/chapters/

  • I missed this thread when it first came up! I hadn't worn LO in a carrier yet at that time, though, so it's for the best.

I got a great deal on an Ergo (Not the 360) on Zulily quite a few months ago and hasn't used it until... eh, about a week or so ago? I hadn't been able to get anything done around the house, feed myself well, or go to the bathroom because every time I set LO down for even a minute he'd flip the heck out. In desperation I put him in the Ergo and started packing him around and sure enough, he loves it. He falls asleep fairly quickly in it and is content when he's awake. And I have two hands available to get things done.

I'd used my sister's Ergo a few times in the past, carrying her youngest, and knew I wanted one when I had kids. I'd have gotten a Tula but... Yeah, I don't have that kind of money by a long shot. The Ergo is great and I'm really looking forward to using it more as time goes on.
  • Also, for the crafty mamas with Ergo carriers, you can make drool pads for them that'll protect the steps from your baby. I used this tutorial. Super easy and you can make them with whatever fabric pattern you want.

  • I have an ergo and a ktan. I like them both well enough, and LO almost always falls asleep when I wear him in either one. They are a godsend when I want to get things done and he doesn't want to be put down.

Thanks for posting this. I am not crafty so I went to etsy instead. They have tons of cute options for less than the ergo brand! I wish I could make my own but this was a good second option.
  • Lillebaby all the way! They're cheaper, better, and last longer. 7 lbs-45 lbs without buying a stupid $40 insert!
