Baby playing

I've been a lerker on here.
My little boy is 6 weeks. What do you do with baby when they are awake to keep them occupied. We do stretches and talking. I haven't been doing great with tummy time because he screams the whole time. But we are working on it.
How are you playing with your babies?

Re: Baby playing

  • We play the smile game where I sit with my knees up, lay her back against my thighs with her bum on my tummy, and make silly faces at her.  She practices smiling and now sticking her tongue out.  In the same position, we play the pull up game where I pull her (gently) towards my body so she can work on head/neck strength in a position she prefers to tummy time.  I have an activity mat that she loves.  She likes to lay on her back and stare at the mobile on it.  For tummy time she prefers laying on top of me and squirming around.  I do baby wearing a good part of the time we're together and she likes that.  She also likes to look at lights and moving objects like the fan.  I sing her silly songs and bounce (gently) with her.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • I talk to him throughout the day, do tummy time, and the jungle mat. I make faces and smile a lot. I also like to rub different textures on his hands/face (fluffy, soft, etc). He has a large fabric ball that he loves- it jingles and has several textures on it. He could play with that thing all day!

  • I do pretty much what PPs have said...in addition I take LO with me (if he's awake) when washing dishes or making myself lunch and tell him what I'm doing while I do it...he sits in his bouncer during this time and either watches me or looks at the puppies that hang from it...I've also found that he likes just laying on his changing pad and smiling so we do that if he starts to get fussy...I'll admit I'm also not the best with remembering tummy time but now that he's 9 weeks old I'm trying to get better at it, sometimes we do it on the mat and sometimes on my chest and I only do it for as long as he is babbling/happy once he starts crying we switch
  • Talking and making faces. I tried introducing her to the mirror yesterday, but she wasn't interested. Her favorite thing is mommy's and daddy's faces. :-)
  • My baby loathes tummy time so I only try after every other diaper change. She loves things that light up and I swear she laughs at me when I dance and sing to music. We prop her up in boppy or just lay her on changing table on her side or back and use a Bright Starts Get Movin' Music Player. Its $7.00 on amazon and has entertained LO for countless hours. Cheapest and best toy purchase we have made so far.
  • Tummy time - she dislikes it on the floor but does really well on my chest or across my knees.

Read - I read both baby books and a book that I'm reading out loud to her.

Music - play music on our phones/radio. Or sing to her. I sing baby songs, music I like, and made up songs.

Activity gym - she loves this thing! It's the turtle one that converts to a ball pit when she's older.

Walk around - and point out everything I see. In general I just talk to her and tell her what I'm doing all the time.

Funny faces - she loves making them back at me. Also I found that if I eat loudly/say things like "um num num " while I'm eating she laughs at me and I actually get to eat!! It's horrible manners-wise but She thinks it's a game.
  • @SweetTooth126 can you attach the fabric ball name brand or link to buy it?

We have that activity gym too and he loves it. I attached a rattle that makes more noise to it. He kicks one of the bars and makes everything jinkle and rattle and laughs. I usually put him on it after he eats in the mornings so I can eat and wash bottles.
  • So far my baby hates everything, haha. Got him an activity gym (actually it's an activity gym and exersaucer in one, so if he never gets into the mat, hopefully he can get use out of the other part later) and he screams his head off every time I try putting him on it. He hated his bouncer until I took the toy bar off. Basically any toy makes him mad aside from this one super soft stuffed monkey his aunt got him and a little lovey that is furry. He seems to enjoy the soft furry texture.

However, he loves playing with my husband and I. He loves silly faces, nose boops, toe tickles. He is also a huge fan of getting to stand up on your lap. He likes when you make him dance or make him fly around (properly supported of course). Basically anything we do with him makes him happy. But dare to try getting him playing with any of the fancy baby things he has and the neighbors will probably think I'm trying to murder him.
  • @themarievon it was a gift so I can't find the exact one, but it is very similar to this:
