So I am off on a girls getaway overseas next month with my family (long story). Husband and bubs are staying behind which is exciting for them EXCEPT I have been EBF and bubs is refusing to take to a bottle. We have been trying to introduce for a long time and lately have tried one feed each day - he won't have a bar of it. He gets worked up and power chucks, screams and is refusing. We have tried different bottles, hubs feeding, me feeding, formula, breast milk, getting on breast then switching to bottle etc. He is in his 4th leap and is even fussy how I feed him (cannot even wear a sunhat, glasses, more skin contact and is easily distracted) any advice would be greatly helpful as I can't bare to leave him if he is refusing to eat. Thanks in advance ladies!
Re: Loyal to boob ... Help!
My advice would be to find a bottle and stink with it. Pick one feeding a day, leave the room, have your husband do it. Be consistent and patient. And don't wait until he's starving- maybe try feeding him earlier than usual so he'll be more willing to work at it. But it your LO sense you are near, he'll hold out for you. My LO won't take a bottle form me or if someone else gives it to her, I can't be in the room.
We have tried me out of the house a few times and different people trying as well as consistent times and not when he is starving (have learnt the hard way that it's not even an option yet)
He is 16 weeks and is even fussy how he is taking the breast currently and thinking this could be a bit of a phase? However, we have had a glimmer of hope yesterday where he swallowed a tiny amount and didn't scream, took a break and had another sip - then he fussed but nothing like he usually does.
Thank you for all the tips - we will continue to try new little tricks like the sugar water and take it slowly
