Fetal Heart Rate normal?

I am currently 31+3 and on Tuesday I had a doc appt where they heard the heartbeat at 125 bpm. My doc said that was great, nothing to worry about, etc. On Friday afternoon, I went for a growth scan (I have GD) and when the tech took the heart rate and again it was 125, she seemed concerned, asked me when I ate last, etc. I asked if 125 was okay and she just kind of didn't say anything and mumbled something about it being slow. I tried to consult with a doc afterward but none were available and my ob/gyn was closed by the time I was able to call. I am going to contact them first-thing Monday, but I spent last night and this morning worrying. My boy is extremely active in there - he moves all day and all night. Should I be concerned about the heart rate?

Re: Fetal Heart Rate normal?

  • Anything between 120 to 180 is normal your doctor wasn't concerned so you shouldn't be either. The ultrasound tech is not a doctor she shouldn't have said anything to you.

  • If your doctor had no concerns and you're feeling plenty of activity, I would assume things are fine.  I'm on baby #2, and my first had a high heartrate, and this one has a much slower heartrate.  There has never been a concern from my OB.
  • My midwife says 120 - 180 is normal. I wouldn't worry, especially when your doctor wasn't concerned!

  • Agreed 120-180 is normal. Ds always hovered in the 120-140 range. If movement is normal, I wouldn't worry.
  • I agree that the tech shouldn't have said anything and, at least here, they aren't allowed to. They aren't the doctor and it can cause a lot of undue stress.
  • Thank you everyone for your responses!! They have made me feel better since the first time yesterday. I really appreciate it.

  • Not sure if you know what you're having but if you believe the wives tales then it's a boy! My son's ranged 128-135 every visit.
  • @jenniferamcooper I am having a boy!

  • If your baby was sleeping at the time his heartbeat would be lower.
  • @Melodyags he had been moving around a ton before the ultrasound and kicked once or twice while she was doing the ultrasound. So possibly he could have been settling into a calmer state when she took that reading.

  • Baby's heart should now be pumping 8 cu/liters of blood.  125 is absolutely normal.
  • Seems totally normal especially for a boy (if you believe the old wives tales)
