Anything else to add?

I will be 36 weeks Friday. I am packing my hospital bag this weekend ..( I know, I procrastinate ) I decided to get some person information typed up and handy just incase of an emergency or I go into labor during the night. I copied all my insurance cards, the card the hospital gave me when I got the RH shot and my drivers license. I also typed up a list of allergies, emergency contacts, blood type, and all my doctors plus my birth plan. I made two copies; one to keep in my bag and one to keep in my car. I just wanted to be prepared incase my husband was at work and I had to have someone else bring me to the hospital. Is there any additonal info that I would need to add? Thanks

  • I can't think of anything. Did you pre-register with the hospital? Then they'll have all your insurance info at least

  • I asked my doctor about that on Tuesday and she was very passive about it. Saying they will make me fill out the same paperwork anytime I go. Somehow, I hardly believe that! I think I will go do that Tomorrow since I am off. Every mom I know has done this.

  • Yeah, I definitely recommend pre-registering.  My hospital even provided me with the birth certificate form so I could get the majority of it filled out and sent in to the hospital in advance.  less to take care of at the hospital.

I commend you for your organization skills.  I figured as long as I have pre-registered, have my hospital bag packed and in the car, bring my wallet with me (that I always have anyways and contains my license, insurance card, etc.) and have my cell phone and it's always charged (I keep a charger in the car), I'll be all set.  I should probably put the baby's car seat in the car (I'm 36 weeks too), but it's not the end of the world if I don't get around to it in time.  We have a toddler at home so hubby will be going back and forth between home and the hospital to make sure things are as normal as possible for our little guy.

A friend actually mentioned the idea to me and I thought I might as well. Im normally not that organized. I did it mainly for emergency purposes. We just got our carseat and stroller in two days ago. We havent put ours in the car yet either. oopsie! We will have to do that this weekend. Have you had your first physical check appt yet?

In my personal experience, she's half right.  Instead of them asking, "What's your address? What's your SSN?" They will say "Is this the correct address?  Is this the correct SSN?"  I've still had to verify a bunch of information, which I somewhat understand, but still just seems silly while in active labor!  As far as what you have compiled, it sounds perfect!

Have you checked the hospitals website? Mine has a place to do it online, so you don't even have to go in!

As for car seats, it's recommended that you wait until closer to your due date to install because if your car is in an accident with the car seat installed, you might need to replace the seat. If you want to something to prepare, only install the base and grab the seat on the way to the hospital.

What do you mean by "physical check appt"?

I had my 36 week appointment on Tuesday and they said she'll probably stay in a while longer.  only 1/2cm dilated and haven't dropped yet.

Sorry should have clarified what I meant . Physical checks I mean she checked for dilation and position, and to see if I had dropped. Normally I say check when she does the heart beat check with Doppler.

  • Like others have said, pre-register so most if not all the paperwork is already done.

Sounds like you are prepared. I'm a FTM, but I'm starting to pack my hospital bag. My DH installed the carseat and we got it inspected. I took the carseat out of the car and just have the base. Like another PP said, take the carseat out just in case someone were to hit your car between now and delivery, you won't have to replace the seat.

  • @satuttle1014 That's a great idea to install it and then just leave in the base. That idea never crossed my mind... dang preggo brain! We are definitely going to do that next weekend.
  • When I toured my hospital they told us they don't do pre-registering anymore. So definitely check to see what your hospitals normal practice is. :)

  • Dang. You're waaaaay prepared. lol.

The hospital will have access to your medical file, so the shot record and blood type will be in there. Just for those who are worried about not having that info on them at check-in. ;)

We pre-registered (online!) and will have our insurance card on us. Um... that's about it. Most everything they're going to ask are completely typical check-in questions like, "Do you smoke? Do you want information on quitting smoking? Do you have a birth plan? Are you ok with deviating from that birth plan for the sake of the baby?" Questions like that. It's kind of annoying to go through them all, so be ready to put your patience panties on and answer through contractions. lol

  • @RissKay I just went through the admit process with a friend and some of the questions they asked surprised me. They asked her if she ever in her life had mental illness, suicidal thoughts, or wished she were dead. EVER. What 16 year old, angst ridden teen hasn't felt that to some degree?

They're super random! Like, I promise my mental health from 10-20 years ago has nothing to do with how I am today unless I legitimately suffer from a mental illness. Duh.

Hospitals have to freaking cover their behinds though, so I get it, but some of the questions I honestly prefer not to even answer because it's like, "WHY DO YOU CARE."

  • I got a call today from my hospital to confirm some info for my c section. I was told the only thing I needed to bring for registration purposes was my insurance card and photo ID. Granted, they have seen me a lot this pregnancy, so I know they have my records.
