Entertaining A Roller

So as of last night our LO finally rolled all the way over from back to tummy.  Problem is once he's on his tummy he cannot roll himself back onto his back yet.  If we put him down on his play mat he will just continuously roll onto his stomach, and becomes frustrated and cries.  So we help roll him back onto his back, which he then rolls right back onto his stomach.  We do this over, and over, and over again.  He's obsessed with rolling right now.

He now doesn't want to be in his swing, or anything that really contains him.  Just a few days ago he would play on is play mat for at least 10-15 minutes batting at all the toys, now he is too distracted by trying to roll!

Looking for some play suggestions that will help entertain him without getting so frustrated that he cannot roll back and forth both ways yet.

  • What about having him sit up with you on the floor? Ds2 loves this so he can look around.

  • I have no advice since my lo only tries to roll completely over while changing him right now but twice once just last night he has rolled over in his crib and cannot roll back just lays there crying into the mattress till we come save him! I hope your lo stays on their back for sleeping. Maybe you could book end your lo with toys to keep him from rolling all the way over just rolling far enough to reach toys that are next to them?
  • We have been there and just like your Lo my girl hated when she was in her stomach but insisted on doing so. That took two weeks now her cool new thing to do is sitting up and drilling all over my hands ...
  • Oooh to answer your question
He will roll over no matter what. It's what his brain is telling him to do.
  • Haha this is us right now! But she can roll from belly to back but just wants to hang out on her belly though! I have a mirror for her to look up that i prop up and read a book to her belly! Other times I'll just talk to her or give a toy to hold in her hands while she is on her belly :) oh yea and I'll play music to!
  • The more time baby is on his belly, the faster he'll learn to roll both ways! I have a mirror horizontal along her play area-she'll stay on her tummy for ages, pushing up and talking to herself. She also likes if we get down so she can see us in the mirror. When she gets bored she rolls over. She hasn't rolled back to front though yet, so then she rocks back and forth til she cries from frustration.
