January 2016 Moms

Anything left on your baby to do list?

Or are you guys all done?  I assume it may be different for us late Jan mamas (I'm not due until 1/31) but I still have a few things left to do. Also, I keep literally waking up in the middle of the night afraid that I've forgotten something huge, which is stressing me out.  Here's what we still have left!  (Hopefully this will jog my brain into remembering anything I'm forgetting.)

We still have to:

-Install the carseat in my car and get it inspected.  (We already did this with DH's car, since we'll be taking his to the hospital, but I need to do mine too.)
-Write/send a handful of thank you notes for late shower gifts that just arrived.
-Buy the last few things we need on our Target registry (we already finished the Amazon one.)
-I have to sign up to end my unemployment benefits and switch to temporary disability on Monday, (got dr approval Thursday.)
-Write out birth plan after my discussion that happened with my dr on Thursday.
-Make a little flag banner for over the crib
-Get my nice camera fixed in preparation for one million baby photos.  :)
-Take a few photos of the nursery, (once flag banner is done and camera is fixed.)
-Choose a dog walker for our pup.
-Do my smog check and renew my registration for my car, since it'll be due just 2 weeks after baby's due date and I don't want to deal with that then!

Ugh, it still seems like kind of a lot, but DH has the next two days off for once (he usually never has weekends off) and we're hoping to knock out nearly everything Saturday and Sunday.  What do you guys have left?  Anything stressing you out?  Or are you all done and sitting pretty?  :)

There are more things we COULD do, but the only things left we NEED to do (due Jan 29) are install and inspect the car seat and also deal with my car registration (also due around same time as baby, so annoying). Everything else would be nice (thank you notes, deep clean, etc) but I won't stress if they don't get done in time.

  • I don't even know...and I'm past due at this point!

Ummm...put the crib bedding in the crib.  Get his room ready (currently his much older step brother is still sleeping in the room with *all* of his stuff...still need him to "move" to his brother's room...different issue though), install car seat (it is out of the box though), purchase something I'm sure (but I'm not sure what...I *think* we have the most essential essentials...at this point we'll probably just buy anything forgotten after he is here), figure out daycare for when I return to work.

Clean house thoroughly was on the list but I just don't think I can physically do what I want to do (more than just dust/sweet/mop) so I have cleaning people coming tomorrow...so that is one big thing that will be off my list.

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff...I've been the most unprepared preggo lady...;)

  • Honestly last time DD came so early I got done NOTHING that I thought I wanted to get done. I'm actually happy for it, though. I have been so stress-free as far as "must get this done" this pregnancy because I've been through one where I didn't even have a bag packed, much less an installed car seat or crib set up!

I do still want to re-arrange our master bed a bit to make room for the pack n play (I want it right next to my bed so I don't have to get up to nurse. Lazy, I know). But other than that, I have the car seat in and the clothes washed and folded and a bag packed. Other than maintenance cleaning of the house I'm calling that good!
  • I have to vacuum out the car, reinstall both car seats, stock up on groceries (all of which is happening Monday.) Pack a bag for me, a bag for SO and ds, and another bag of toys (only ones that can take a bleach bath later,) diapers/wipes, and snacks for ds to have when visiting at the hospital.  I'll also give the bathroom a good scrubbing and put fresh sheets on the bed the night before my rcs.

  • I gave birth 2 weeks ago tomorrow and I still have baby list things to do! :smirk:
  • I'm due January 30, and I just finished prepping a freezer full of meals, so now my kitchen needs a good deep clean. I'd love to deep clean the house but not sure if that'll happen before she's here. I also would love to declutter our bedroom a bit so adding baby in the cosleeper doesn't fill it up too much. I want to knit some booties to match my coming home outfit buuuut I have no motivation. My baby sprinkle is this weekend so I'll have to write thank you notes after that. Otherwise I'm good to go!

  • I need to de-clutter the baby room (baby is sharing with my 13 month old). I'd like to put her name up on the wall. Double check my hospital bag and pack DS's diaper bag so that my parents don't have to deal with that when they bring him to the hospital. Minor grocery shopping for the kids for while SO and I are at the hospital. I'd like to deep clean the kitchen and vacuum the living room.

If I'm really feeling like sending myself into labor before my induction on Sunday morning, I'd really like to give my dogs baths because they stink.
  • I'm due in 8 days & I feel like all the things I haven't done are stupid but I still need to do them.

1.) Install car seat (it'll take like 3 minutes so I guess that's not a biggie)
    2.) Vacuum his room
3.) Buy hats & mittens. How does my child not have any hats and mittens. He's a dang winter baby.
4.) Buy a breast feeding cover (boobie blanket, SO likes to call them)
5.) Get a boppy cover (mine is pink. Grandma really thought baby boy was going to be a girl)
6.) Most importantly. Order my damn breast pump. Insurance is paying for it, and I just have to order it off Target, I'm just a world class procrastinator.

  • If I'm really feeling like sending myself into labor before my induction on Sunday morning, I'd really like to give my dogs baths because they stink.

Just did that tonight! Teeth brushed, coats brushed, ears cleaned, glands expressed, bathed, and beds washed. We did all that just before the holidays but our one dog has a tendency to get ear infections during the winter and for some reason those make everything smell SO BAD. Now I feel like I need to bleach the tub, though. :P
  • Pick a name! Due in a week :s
  • Yep, there are definitely a few things left on the list. I just had a 2nd shower last weekend, so I need to write thank you notes and finish putting away those gifts. DH needs to put up the curtains in the nursery and install the car seat. And we need to make a decision on the pediatrician. I'd love to get the house really clean too, so we'll see how that goes.

My dogs are both over 100 lbs and bath time is not a favorite... what's worse is cleaning the bathroom afterwards.
  • Pick a name! Due in a week :s

This should've probably been first on my list of things left to do. I guess that's probably why we haven't decided on a name yet, haha!

  • i think almost all the important things are done for us, just a few things left. Either they won't get done, or the MIL will help me blitz it when she comes to stay next week:

~ Install and check car seat (probably the most important thing)
~ Freezer meals (might not happen)
~ Deep clean (really want to get at least some of this done but it's looking less likely)
    ~ Clean feeding equipment
~ Repack hospital bag. I keep changing my mind on what I'll need for clothes for me and baby
    ~ Get a haircut

Doesn't seem too bad. Aside from the car seat, nothing left on the list is essential before baby arrives. And if baby comes early, we're only 10 minutes from the hospital so DH can install it when he comes back to feed the kitties.
  • I'm due on the 12th and still haven't installed the car seat lol
  • 1.Pick a name!!
    2. Have a baby!!
  • Install the car seat, which I'm not too worried about since it takes all of 5min. The big thing that is giving us trouble is the monitor. The old one we have wont sync with any of the newer cameras and the camera we have is almost ka-put. The new monitor we got won't sync with the old camera so I went back to the store to get an additional camera for the new monitor and it won't sync properly with that one either. So I have to go back to the store for the third flipping time to return all the new crap we bought that isn't working and try to find another unused in-the-box monitor like we already have off eBay because I refuse to pay almost $300 on a monitor. Ugh.

we read a lot of this when researching a new camera for our monitor, which would have cost over $100, for just the camera. We ended up just buying a new monitor that comes with 2 cameras for $150 to save the hassle.
  • Getting some good ideas from everyone's lists - haircut for me and grooming for our dog seems smart, since I can't imagine we'll be wanting to take care of either of those things for the first few weeks after baby!
  • -pedicure
    -buy more baby wipes
-1 more small load of baby clothes to wash
    - baby shower thank you cards
    - Give midwives my birth plan
    - Have husband tighten the car seat base
  • - One more load of baby laundry (Christmas gifts)
    - Get my car detailed and install car seat base. This is all set in DHs car though.
    - Mop kitchen floor
    - Buy some ready-to-feed formula so I don't have to deal with mixing bottles in the middle of the night (for the first week or two)
  • Car seat install and hospital bag. But I never made a bag for both my boys until I was heading to the hospital.

  • All of those, same for me.
  • I need to add:

-Coconut/cut/color my hair (I cut it myself)

-Win the battle for a girl name, Evelyn vs. Hannah

-Pedicure.  Except there is no place in town to get it done, so I get to walk SO through the parts I can't reach.

We ended up buying a Motorola home security camera thing. It was 50$ through US Cellular, and it streams to your phone or tablet. 2 way sounds. And it alerts you via text if there's movement, and also takes photo as well as livestreaming a video.
  • I did a fancy spa pedicure this week with my mom and best friend as a thank you to them for throwing my shower...hoping it holds up until my end of the month due date!

  • I need to finalize my FMLA paperwork, fill the dresser, and hang some artwork. I'm soooo ready.
  • I have to make up the crib with the bedding but I might wait until my baby is home to do that because my kittens have been sleeping in the crib and I don't want the sheets to get all hairy.

The car seat was professionally installed today (I'm paranoid so I paid someone to do it and teach us how to secure baby safely) but next is figuring out how my baby carriers work. I have a Stokke and a Baby Bjorn. They both look really complicated and I'm a little inimdated by them.

I also have to find some backup daycare options because my top choice had over a year waitlist and I put him on a little over a year before he needs it but you never know

I also have to look into disability insurance. My work will pay me 5 weeks (I'm taking full 12 though). I've been delaying it because I don't think it will even be worth the hassle of applying. They pay 4-6 weeks for normal deliveries and if my work is covering 5 of them, then it's like one week's worth and it's prob not worth the hassle.
  • I'm due on the 25th (but #1 came at 37 weeks...).
I vowed to have everything done by Christmas because I didn't want to be unprepared this time around. Last time I didn't have anything done because DS was surprised us by coming so early. It really wasn't a big deal and was easy to finish things when DS was tiny. This time around I feel like it will be harder. Having a toddler puts a whole new spin on this baby thing. Of course, I'm still behind.

-The carseat base is installed and I just washed and reset up the seat itself. HOWEVER, I can't find the infant insert or the canopy. I know we have them both somewhere in the basement.... I just need to send DH or myself down to dig through all the boxes of stuff.

-I need to buy sheets for the co-sleeper. We have two. With as much messy as tiny babies are I know we will need more than that in the beginning.

-Need to buy the double stroller and monitor. We don't NEED either of these things but they will make life much easier. They are on my Target registry and I never used the completion code because I didn't buy much this time around.

-After reading the other lists I am going to get a pedicure. Maybe tomorrow. And maybe a manicure while I'm there too. We'll see.
  • Like a few others we still have the name debate. And the circumcision debate. And installing the car seat and switching our daughters seat. And packing our go bags. I keep telling myself we have time!
  • @GAgirlinSDakota those are my two ABSOLUTE favorite girl names!!! Lucky you get to use one of them. We're having another boy and still don't really have a name picked out. Plus, if it was a girl my husband vetoed both names

I've always wanted to use them, but my exH vetoed them both for my oldest daughters. Now this is my last baby, and my last chance, but I cant use both :'(. I really want Evelyn, but SO has already been calling the baby Hannah for months. Choices, choices.

Not lazy! We're doing the same thing. In the master, I have to finish emptying on dresser into another one, move that dresser out, and set up the pack and play. Also we have to move another dresser out of the nursery and a futon frame out of the computer/cat/soon-to-be guest room and figure out what to do with the cats. Then my house needs a good cleaning. I'm only 39w3d, so I have plenty of time, right? Lol. I'm a procrastinator!

    Car seat install.
    Get pedicure.

Currently working on stock piling my pantry and fridge just so we have a ton of food around.

  • Due Jan 24th and Almost everything done here. I went through a huge nesting phase before Christmas and finished all the de-cluttering and organized all the baby clothes and her closet which was a relief. Had DH deep clean the basement this past weekend since I feel like a beached whale and I was not gonna get that done lol

Only things left are we need to install the car seat and have it checked, and possibly get a pedicure this week but if that doesn't get done I can deal. I can't believe how fast the time goes!
  • I'll be 38weeks Thursday and have yet to even buy a car seat yet as I keep changing my mind on which one I like lol
Still need to wash all clothes and blankets
    Get diapers
Pack a Bag pretty much everything left to do
  • Lol. Well. We don't have the nursery done. The house and dogs are clean, bags are packed. All stocked on groceries.
But the nursery. The short version is we are renovating and have been for some time. Its an old house. We need to finish one room before we can do the nursery because for a number of reasons all the furniture from that room is crammed in the nursery, and the one room is worst case scenario. Its almost done. Fortunately the baby will sleep in a bassinet in our room for a few weeks. Making night time feedings easier and our room is the most temperature controled
