Nanny Pregnant

Hi! Pretty new to this board but looking for advice from those who have experience.

I work from home 90% of the time.  My nanny is also here with my children.  She is expecting a child and one option we are kicking around is her moving to a part time position (kids will be in school) and then bringing her baby to work.  This has pros and cons for both of us.  Looking for others stories and experiences!  This is new to both of us!

Re: Nanny Pregnant

  • I have never been n this position.

My close friend is a nanny to two families, one with a newborn of their own and a toddler. She returned to with at6 wks pp, starting part time. Now at13 weeks it seems to still be going well. She did register for an infant carrier made for twins.

  • From the point of view of somebody who used to nanny part time- unless she's paid a lot per week or has another source of income, it probably won't be feasible for her to stay only part time once the baby gets here. Being a parent is so expensive. I wasn't able to make enough only part time and was working another full time job, and that was before my baby came. Plus there could be problems with your kids being jealous of her child and acting out when she gives the baby attention. It really would take a lot of open communication amongst all parties to make it work. Good luck to all involved!
  • My best friend is a nanny and had her son only 9 months after starting. She has been bringing her son since 6 weeks PP. The family then had twins last year so she did put her son into preschool a few days per week to get a little "break." She gets state aid for childcare though, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to afford it.
