Calling all 1/16 C Section Mommas!

Hi ladies! I wanted to start a thread for all of the c section moms on here so that we had a place to share our delivery stories, recovery details, and amazing moments with our new babies! I am scheduled to delivery on the 12th and would love to hear from the other 1/16 moms who have scheduled or unexpected c sections.

Re: Calling all 1/16 C Section Mommas!

  • Mine is scheduled for the 11th due to breech baby!
  • Loading the player...
  • Repeat c-section for DD2 scheduled for the 19th @ 39 weeks! DD1 was also a c-section June 9, 2014. She was recommended c-section due to suspected size (and they were right... 9 lbs 2 oz), so since her little sister will only be 19 months later, I wasn't a good candidate for VBAC, not that I think she'll be any smaller!
  • Having my 3rd C-section on the 22nd since my last spawn flipped breech during his 40wk appt, ruining my chance at VBACs.

  • I am scheduled for Jan 15 due to baby being breech.
  • I was due Jan 4 but had an emergency c-section on Dec 29. 20 hours of labor and the surgery was like sweet relief. I am on day 11 of recovery. Not too bad pain wise. About 3 regular strength Tylenol per day. My scar is looking pretty good too. :)

    Wrote a novel - oops!

I had an emergency c section on 1/6 after about 12 hrs of labor. Made it all the way to 10 without meds but baby didn't tolerate the pushing and her heart rate dropped too much. Very crazy experience going from my zen like labor to a "ok, things are going to start moving pretty fast...." - a bunch of nurses coming in, pushing hubs aside, a winding/dizzying run thru the hospital to the OR, getting transferred to some sort of plank thing, arms spread open, legs spread open and strapped down, trying to manage horrible contractions with no support, getting sprayed all over with a cold liquid that stained my nursing bra and then hearing "you'll feel some pressure in your throat" as the anesthesia kicked in. Woke up a couple hours later to my hubby carrying in baby girl, started crying because baby!!! but loved cuddling her. While waiting for our mother-baby room to get ready found out part of what took so long was waiting on the X-ray to make sure they didn't leave any instruments inside of me! Apparently once I was under they got baby out in 30seconds and there was no time to count before/after!

We got released a day early which now that we are home maybe wasn't the best decision since things were a little easier all in one room with help available at the push of a button!

Still having a lot of intense soreness, probably some from the surgery itself and some from the full body flexing during labor. I know I did a lot of full on body trembling during each contraction between 7-10cm. Ug

Hardest parts are getting up/down, trying to splint while laughing, and trying to find a comfy position to breastfeed. I'm a little disappointed everything didn't go according to plan (duh!?) but am so happy to have my healthy baby here at home.

Looking forward to following you other mommas and any tips for recovery!

  • This is a great thread. I had a csection on 1/7. I was scheduled for an induction at 37+5 due to having twins. Both twins were head down and in a good position to deliver naturally; however after having cytotec and two different fulley bulb catheters to dialate me I was stuck at 4cm for 48 hours. Babies were tolerating the contractions but my body just decided not to cooperate. I had gotten an epidural before they broke my water however it was not placed right and had to be placed again.. (Ouch). When I was told that plan B was happening (the csection), I was relieved that I would finally be meeting my babies after 52 hours of labor. But at the same time I was disappointed with myself. I do not remember most of the csection even tho I was awake. They placed a spinal to numb me and after that it was a blur. Both babies came out in less than 5 mins. My husband was able to show me one of my girls but then the OR staff took him and the babies back to our room because I had postpartum hemorrhage. I did not have to recieve a blood transfusion thankfully. But the loss of all the blood has definitely taken a toll on me. The recovery is not too bad as long as I take my meds reguarlly. Getting comfortable and finding a good postion to breastfeed both my babies is the hardest part. It's nice to know that I am not alone. Especially since no one that I am close with has had a csection. My main concerns right now are just the swelling and tenderness in not only my belly but my back muscles as well. Hopefully I begin to find some relieve!

Wow that was a long post! Sorry!
  • Tldr- description of csection.

I had a csection due to bub being breech.
It was on Jan 5th. IThe epidural process really wasn't to bad- didn't really hurt, it really helps knowing what's to come- we were laughing and joking around, then they lay you on the table. My husband came They started the procedure- I excpected to "feel" a bit but I didn't realize how forceful the doctor has to be to get the baby out- I was being thrown around like a sack of potatoes. Lol. I really doesn't hurt though. Then the doctors let my husband look- he said he didn't want to and then decided to peek- his face lit up with joy. It was beautiful. She both poooed and weed entering the world lol. She didn't cry imediatly then took her to the table- suctioned her, and then she let out a scream! I expected her to be purple but she was soooooo purple- after they swaddled her and gave her to daddy she stopped crying and just looked around the room in awe I wanted to hold / touch her but I was scared too at the same time so Daddy held her next to me and I just looked. I started to feel sick by this point- and strayed dry heaving - so really a couldn't concentrate on much. My husband and daughter left the room- then the surgeon removed two endometrioma a from my ovary- this made me feel very sick so they gave me Maxalon. I felt better. Imediatly. The stitching up takes ages. Then I went recovery for the first feed- which went well- that was when I really started to fall in love with my daughter!!! but one thing I didn't know was they put pitocin in your drip after to encourage your uterus to contract vback down.!that really hurt!!!! I was trying to be brave and not ask for pain meds- don't do that- ask!!!

Overall a csection isn't terrible when it's planed- I think you are so prepared for it- the first three days of recovery are awful- but then you feel miles better after that. I can do anything but lift heavy things and get up quickly.

Being a mother and "giving birth" is an amazing experiance- no matter how it is done. I hated pregnancy but it was so so worth it.
  • Hi ladies! Wanted to give an update since I had my c this morning. The scariest part for me was sitting in the or waiting for it all to happen. It seemed surreal! The spinal block was nowhere near as bad as I expected. I thought it was taking a really long time to actually numb up and then the doctor did the sharp test and apparently I was much more numb than I thought. Lots of pulling and movements but no pain at any point. Sewing up took about 30-40 min. Recovery was frustrating because they didn't let me sit up but wanted me to hold him and breastfeed. That's a little challenging in the prone position. After 2.5 hours, I was taken to the mom/baby room. About 11 hours after surgery, I sat up and walked to the bathroom. I felt SO much better to be moving. The expectation was much worse than the reality. I ended up standing for about 30 minutes tonight in the hopes to pass gas (I want those solids!!!). Overall, MUCH better than expected so far. Hopefully, I don't have any major setbacks but either way I get to look at this cutie, so how could I be anything but happy?! Good luck everyone!!
