Nesting mamas

Have some of you ladies been getting the urge to "nest" if so what time does it tryically sprout up? What have you ladies been doing when you feel the need to do EVERYTHING? I just experienced my first bout 2 days ago at midnight. Which left me preparing meals for the weeks cleaning and making cookies*current craving*.

Re: Nesting mamas

  • Every time I feel the nesting bug I end up back in the kid's closet messing with clothes. There's not a whole lot left for us to do other than maintain the house. The last few days I've been very focused on laundry and dishes since they are daily things that always need to be done.

  • I do the usual vacuuming, clean the bathrooms and laundry. However, I find myself organizing and re-organizing closets/drawers. I keep going into the LO's room and moving things around because I think I want certain things in new places. But nothing crazy for me, my friends ask me if nesting has kicked in.

  • Hit me last week with this little. I finished organizing the girl's room and getting all DD's baby clothes out and put away. My daughter will be sharing a room with her new sister. Then I organized the living room, then the kitchen, then our bedroom, then closets. That's pretty much our whole house lol. So now I've started canning lol. I got a pressure canner for Christmas and I've done 6 jars or deer meat and will do the rest today and tomorrow. After that I'll can all our dry beans. After that I'm really hoping Little Love arrives because I'll officially be out of activities until early spring when it's time to start our garden lol. With my oldest nesting kicked in the day I went into labor. I all of the sudden had an incredible urge to bleach the walls and floors of my home, which I did that day before labor kicked in lol
  • I keep a to do list on my phone of things to get done and delete them as I do them. I've organized/reorganized his clothes drawers a few times, Got his bag packed for the hospital, DH and DD cleaned the toy room, I cleaned and organized the linen closet, washed the car seat cover and bouncer cover and all his clothes, sheets, and burp cloths. I still need to Clorox wipe the car seat, deep clean bathrooms again, and vacuum the house. Oh and pack my bag.
I'm definitely feeling the nesting urge but by the time I get done at work (nanny 8 kids) and do dinner, dishes, pack lunch for the next day my energy is gone. So I usually end up getting a few things done every Saturday.
  • I have the urge to just clean everything, but then I see how bad our house really is (from my lack of energy and H's lack of being home) and it causes me to have panic attacks. I think tonight and tomorrow I'm going to make lists of things that need to be done on the doors of every room in the house and tackle each room one at a time. Might make me feel less overwhelmed...

I've began to gather all the stuff that needs to be washed so I can start washing this week. I need to get the furniture moved and rooms re-aranged but I can't do it myself so H will hopefully get that done this weekend

  • for right now, it just included an hour of scurrying around packing my hospital bag and my toddler's bug-out bag.  I'm being lazy about finishing up in the nursery.  I need to organize the clothes in there (all washed and folded, just haven't figured out the best way that I want to organize them in the drawers and closet) and put up the wall mural.

  • I'm nesting mostly at night. I reorganized my linen closet and made a cake last night and today I have time right now while the kids are at school I am washing clothes and making freeze ahead meals. I have started to get the hospital bag together. I'm due in 4 1/2 weeks. The floor boards are bugging me so I have been on my hands and knees scrubbing from time to time. For me it comes and goes but mostly at night.
  • It just started this week for me. The problem is I'm getting a cold and have an active 2.5 year old. So either I'm too tired or DD just destroys whatever I've started. Lucky for me I think DH is "nesting" He's been going crazy every night cleaning or organizing the basement, he finished our office/craft/guest bedroom and is going to paint the one wall in the nursery this weekend. He was really great last night because he let me sit in the recliner (swollen feet) and direct him to put stuff in piles; keep, sell, toss.
I think I'm going to let DD go visit my mom next week so I can get stuff done and get some rest.
  • I want to clean and organize.. But the laziness is real and I can't get my butt moving long enough to actually do it :D I think once I go on maternity leave next week and days off aren't so precious I'll get more into it.

  • @g0lightly8706 I am the same way, I'm going over all the things/projects I want to do in my head, but then after work, dinner, regular cleaning, I get lazy and say I'll just do it all another day.

Im ready for the nesting bug to hit me :)  I think DH is too... I am just so exhausted after work that I literally sit in a warm bath until the water gets cold then I get in my cozy pjs and im done for the night. I dont have a date set for my maternity which sucks. I am working until I guess I go into labor. :( Not ideal for me!

  • I think nesting has hit me in the form of trying to get all.the.sleep.  My husband says I sleep like a cat now that I'm in the final month.   I sit down on the couch after we put our toddler to bed and I fall asleep pretty much the moment I put my feet up every night.  Hubby wakes me to come upstairs to bed when he goes up.
  • This hit me two weeks ago. I was up early cleaning around. I am just trying to tidy the house up and get things done. But I haven't had my shower yet so I can't get the real nesting I want done, in the room really.
  • I think the nesting has hit me but I have no energy to do it. I generally tackle dishes and vacuuming and then collapse on the couch. Does cleaning up my daughters toys count? That's a lot of squats lol.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one rearranging DD's clothes! I'm definitely in the nesting phase. Obsessing over what needs to be cleaned and organized next. And it feels SO good afterward when the tasks are done. I make lists but the lists are never ending. I tend to want to nest in the late morning/early afternoon when I have the most energy.

  • Honestly... I've been on a cleaning and laundry kick just because I love the smell of all the detergents and cleaners and everything.. it's really come in handy.

i was trying to be super organized and neat with the onesies and in the end just threw all the newborn/0-3 months in the drawer together :) I've got the sleepers organized by months size and all the outfits hung up.

I've been nesting in spurts. They don't last long. I am so lazy lately! I'm driving myself crazy with it lol. Luckily we just need to pick up some simple stuff and hang some pictures and I'm done with the nursery prep. Then it's just freezer meal prep and cleaning!

  • It hit me several weeks ago, which was good because I still had energy then. I wish it would now so I could get some freezer meals made but I am just so exhausted by the time I get home from work! Hopefully this weekend I'll get some stuff done . . .
  • Speaking of freezer meals, I kept saying I wanted to try making some. I saw our local grocer was having a 10% off meat in a bag sale, so I should use that as an incentive to buy in bulk to create meals!
  • @Achae look up the newleafwellness page. It has soooo many awesome recipes and it gives you a grocery list so you can pick up everything you need for each section.
  • Every time it hits me, I look at the items I have for him.. Then I start to freak because I have nothing for him. Just a few items of clothing, I mean we have a crib so he has a place to sleep. But I'm so not prepared for this.
  • I keep packing, unpacking and repacking our hospital bag. And renorganzing her room. Im also got a new vacuum for Christmas with AMAZING suction so I have been vacuuming almost daily.

I just wish some of this nesting would give me the urge to wash and put away the mountains of laundry accumulating in my room *sigh*

Oh yes, I feel like I have been nesting on and off for a few months. Cleaned out my closet+drawers, went through the pantry and threw away anything that was expired + cleaned and organized the shelves, and all the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen. Washed all baby clothes through month 3, etc. one thing I haven't done, but need to (been putting off) do is make up some freezer meals. We live 15 miles from town, plus in a tiny town with just two small restaurants so delivery isn't even an option anyway. Luckily, we live less than a 1/4 mile from my in-laws & I think they'll have us for dinner often so they can see the baby (first grand baby for them as my husband is their only child). Good luck to all you mama's, can't believe how close we are!!!

The past couple of weeks I've been de-cluttering what I like to call "hot spot" areas (kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc.) just so things don't get extra messy and re-arranging my cleaning, laundry & cooking schedules and putting them into practice. Last week I reorganized LOs' clothes, started organizing his diaper bag and had DH to put together his bassinet for me. This week I've been making a last minute list and prepping to do some online ordering of final minor items (tams, extra blankets, cloth diaper supplies, etc.) that I don't feel up to hunting for in the stores any longer. Yesterday we had a wood burning stove delivered that will be installed next week for a secondary heating/ cooking source for winter. Today I went through my homebirth kit to ensure I had everything I needed and made a small freezer meal and snack list that I will start prepping within the next couple of weeks (hopefully). I plan to also make a few loaves of bread and some homemade washing detergent & toothpaste for DH and I so he want have to run out for that.

  • I've been nesting for weeks. I'm running out of things to set up but being back at work (after the holiday break) helps. We went and had our car seat installed today and that was one of the last things on my list. I'm not meal prepping because whenever it comes down to it, my husband and I never want leftovers so we'll probably do a lot of ordering in.
One bad thing is that I've been abusing our new Amazon prime membership a bit lol. I keep thinking of more stuff I need for the baby. I'm going to hold off on buying anything more though until baby comes and I actually encounter something I need and don't have.
I'm axtually just about to fold the last bit of the baby's laundry. His going-home outfit just arrived today :)
