Armpit pain?

I have been having left armpit pain that is very tender and sore. I was wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

Re: Armpit pain?

  • Tender and sore to touch? Are your breasts also still tender? Some women have breast tissue all the way back in their armpits, that could be the culprit. BUT. A sore pit could also mean an infection.

  • I think you just solved a mystery for me....I have intermittent soreness/tenderness in the area between my boobs and armpits. It feels like i did an amazingly hard workout. Some days it hurts to raise my arms or reach around to undo my bra. I just put two and two together and realized it happens when my boobs grow a bit. Hopefully yours is something similar and nothing bad (and mine is now what I think it is) FX!!!!
  • In addition to what @areacasey stated (which is most likely, I think), if you're noticing the pain/tenderness more often when your bra is on or has recently come off, you may need to adjust your size. If you have grown and the bra straps/band/underwire are digging in or shifting too much, it can cause a lot of irritation to the point where it can feel almost bruised and sometimes itchy.

The area towards the bottom of my armpit swelled just before my colostrum came in. With my first, it freaked me out because I didn't expect it. Your OB can give you a better idea of what kind of tissue soreness you have through an exam (muscular, lymph, or breast) and if there's any doubt, they can do a breast ultrasound.
  • As PP's have said. ^^

But also just be sure of no lump in the armpit. Feel around on both of them to make sure. Lump in the armpit area can mean other, more serious things. And always best to check with a doc if you're uncomfortable and unsure.

  • I've got fibro cystic lumps in my breasts and my breast tissue happens to go up through my armpits. Sometimes because of the fibro cystic tissue I experience tenderness and even fire/burning like pain from the side of one or both breasts up through my pits. It's not very comfortable in the least. For me, it's normal and I know the cause, however if you've never experienced pain like this I'd say it's best to contact your dr.
