Exclusively Pumping

For all you moms that EP just curious how it is all going? How often do you pump? Any tips or tricks that you have found to be useful?? :)

I'll go first :) I started exclusively pumping when my daughter was about 9 days old. The first couple weeks was so much work to me and I wish I knew what I know now back then it would have been so helpful!

I pump 4x a day and when I feed my daughter because I feel like I cannot get anything done around the house if I pump while she naps. (Plus I love that she can look at me all propped up on the boppy and talk and laugh with me :) )

The whole sports bra hands free pumping bra trick has saved my life

Also just recently found a lady said her LC recommended putting her pumping parts in a ziploc in the fridge and use the same parts throughout the day (genius!)

  • I have been EPing since the beginning due to latch problems. I have found the babycommunity group for EP extremely useful and tend to go there while I pump. I also have did the sports bra thing for a while, but got annoyed with taking my top off to put it on so and I started using this under a real nursing bra. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B012TN07G2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1452280733&sr=1-1&pi=SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41LAaAeyMFL&ref=plSrch.
It is the flimsiest bra in the world but it holds the flames and bottles and I can put a real supportive bra over it and then i don't have to take any clothes off to pump. I have one for each day of the week and it is awesome!

I also keep a cooler on my nightstand for pump parts and pumped milk for early morning fm or MOTN pumps.
  • I should also add that I LOVE car pumping! If we go to parties, holiday gatherings, etc. I make my husband drive (payback for nine months of me being the dd) and I pump on the way there so I am freshly empty and can enjoy the time there, then pump on the way back. The car adapter is clutch!

I haven't tried to pump while I drive, yet, but I probably will for longer commutes! (Luckily my work and daycare are only a 5 minute drive.. So won't be able to use that time when I head back to work!)

@kaza512 Love that !!! I need the car adapter ... Is the power and suction just as good ??
  • Yup! I use both the Medela symphony and the PISA at home and obviously it is the PISA that I use in the car and I can't tell a difference with the car adaptor.
  • I have been EP since about a week in (tried bf'ng 1 feeding daily for about 2 weeks after that w/little success) My not so LO was starving and frantic when trying to BF and it was stressful for us both. I knew I'd be pumping when I went back to work and I'm gone almost 12 hours a day so trying to maintain the BF'ng and pumping just wasn't worth it to me.

I pump before work and 2-3 times while there(schedule depending) and usually 2x in the evening. Depending on how tired I am I will either pump later in the evening and try to go until morning or I have to get up and pump around 2 or 3 because I'm so full. I always get more from right boob and am able to pump enough during the day to have bottles for next day plus so I've been able to build up quite a stock pile(we had to buy a deep freeze)

I created my own hands free bras(sports bras w/holes) and use them at home but at work its just a hassle to strip down and plus if my boobs are too full they don't fit right and I've got underboob leakage.

I have the PISA and have pumped both as a passenger and while driving. I have to turn my pump up because the suction isn't as strong(I have the Medela brand adapter)

Luckily I haven't had supply issues and haven't had to take anything for that but can definitely tell if I'm lacking in water by my output.

I use a "6-pack" cooler for work that holds 2 ice packs and 6 medela bottles and then I keep my parts in there during the day since its cold so I don't have to wash until I get home
  • @kaseyhunter85 I hate when under boob leakage happens :( I can totally tell when my intake on water has been low for the day as well ! Crazy how our bodies work
