Swaddling and sleep sack

We have had baby girl in a sleep sack since day 1. I am reading now that at 4 months to get rid of the swaddle so I'm assuming this includes sleep sacks. My questions are: how to keep them warm since your not suppose to have blankets in the crib and our baby has a tendency to pull the blanket over her face. Also we use the sack to keep her from rolling over since she can't roll back over so how do you keep them from being on her tummy without the stabilization of the sleep sack keeping her on her back?

Re: Swaddling and sleep sack

  • I could be wrong but I don't believe that includes sleep sacs, my DS1 used his sleep sac from 5 months until he was over two.

  • I think sleep sacks are fine because their arms are free. Like PP, DS used his until just over two when he went into a bed.
  • I my understanding, even swaddles are ok, as long as the arms are out. It's the ability to use their arms that is important (could be wrong, but that was my understanding).

  • We used sleep sacks with my first til she was 22 months. Or wearable blankets because they have some that have legs for when they start walking.
  • Sleep sacks are fine. DD1 rolled over onto her tummy to sleep from 6 months on, even in her sleep sack. It's about being able to use their arms, I think.

  • Sleep sacks are fine.  Even swaddles are okay, just use common sense and transition to a sack without swaddling if baby is rolling over consistently.

  • I can't be of much help. My LO is 16 weeks and I don't see how I'll ever be able to not swaddle him in his sleep sack. If his arms aren't strapped to his sidew he instantly wakes and can't fall back to sleep. Dreading the time when I'll have to stop!
  • I quit swaddling all together last week as the little guy learned to roll over. It was a rough week but he has slept great the last two nights!! At first he would try rolling over even in his sleep and it would wake him. Now I lay him down, he rolls over, and is instantly asleep. He just had his 4 mo checkup and doc said if he's rolling on his own then he's fine on his stomach - I don't need to correct it or anything. It still makes me nervous though!! I check on him a lot during naps and if I wake in the night and he's still sleeping I go check on him. :)
  • Big changes for my little one this week.
First we took away her pacifier and that went somewhat ok.
Today we let her have one hand out. So far she is sleeping but I have to see what happens when she comes out of her sleeping cycle and wakes up. She will try to put her hand in her mouth and get upset when she realizes it's not her paci.
But she is in a sleep sack.
  • Thanks ladies. I guess I should have said her sleep sack is a halo one and right now we have her arms swaddled inside. I think I will try leaving her arms out this weekend and see how it goes.
