Big reaction?

This is random, but I was watching one of those videos today that people post online with clips of people reacting to pregnancy announcements. You know, screaming, jumping up and down, etc. they always make me laugh, but it made me wonder, has anyone actually gotten a huge reaction like that? What kind of reaction did you get? If so tell us your story :) Who flipped out the most?

Re: Big reaction?

  • I don't know that I can vote on this one since I didn't do a group announcement; so people's reactions varied pretty greatly from person to person.

  • Caveat for me: my Dad actually was jumping up and down. Pretty cute. Everyone else pretty much cried to varying extents, clapped, and shrieked. No actual screams.
  • There was a lot of shouting & oh my god!s and crying happy tears when we told our families :) I'd say it was big, not dramatic like lots of the viral videos you see but definitely a big response!

  • My DH and I got ok reactions from my folks. Happy but fairly subdued for a first grandchild. Friends were happy, no jumping up and down. In laws were downright unfriendly. We are a graduate educated, fully-employed, fiscally responsible married couple and DH is 29 and I'm 34, so since this is an IVF baby and the first grandkids on either side, we were expecting some baby jumps at least. In the end it didn't matter... we were over the moon enough to make up for our folks and they'll get there when they're ready.
  • Tears from a few, weird sarcastic comments from my parents and a lot of congrats and "woah you're having three kids? Yikes". We didn't do a big announcement so no big group reactions. :-)
  • Kind of a mix. My parents were both super stoked and hugged me and had huge smiles and Hs parents were just like "oh really!?" Because I think they initially thought this was an oops baby since our son had just turned a year old at the time. I actually had to make several comments about the baby being planned before they were like "oh congratulations".

  • This is number 3 for us.  My mom got a little teary and said she was happy for us, which was cute.  My MIL f-ed up our surprise reveal by badgering my DH while I was at work until he told her and then she said "I just knew it.  I thought you would surprise us on Christmas." Needless to say that did not go over well with me and my hormonal self when I found out.
Other than that, just did an announcement photo on fb and got the normal "Congrats!" from extended family and friends.

  • My parents both cried.  My FIL was just happy and my MIL was happy but bitchy (I've told this before).

  • We're young-ish and fairly newly married and both of our families waited until their 30s to have babies so we got a lot of surprise more than anything. My MIL didn't believe us and just sat there in shock but has more than made up for her lack of initial excitement since then. My parents were excited but not overly. DH's grandma cried, my grandma was really happy but jumped right to "wow, that was quick, only married for 3 months before you made a baby?" So really a whole range of responses.
  • My side of the family exploded in tears/hugs/gasps of disbelief, they know how much we struggled getting pregnant.

ILs seemed less than thrilled, which I expected so it didn't bother me. I think it got to DH a little but I reminded him how happy we are and how our friends and other family were beyond thrilled for us. That seemed to lift his spirits.

The biggest reaction was from my best friend who started sobbing uncontrollably. She is always loving on the baby bump when I see her. It's adorable!!!!
  • My mom cried, and my dad and in-laws were so incredibly happy. This is the first grand baby on both sides, so everyone is really excited. My friend actually jumped up and down, but she loves babies and loves when her friends have babies (she has 3 kids).

Most of our reactions were the normal happy tears and excitement. To tell extended family my sister was wearing a shirt that said "The best sisters get promoted to aunt" and my aunt was reading it and when she finally got it she literally jumped up and down and ran over to me to give me a hug! It was so cute!!

ETA: my BIL literally cried (a lot) when we told him and kept saying " wait, I'm really going to be an uncle" so that was a wonderful reaction too!
  • My husband cried uncontrollably. Our parents were happy, but didn't get too excited at first. I think everyone was nervous, because we had suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year and we had been struggling to get pregnant.

  • With my first we bought a special calendar, pictures of Virginia Tech, and marked baby's due date on it. We gave it to my dad at a big family gathering and had previously told my SIL so she was ready with her camera. We have the whole thing on video. It took forever for my parents to reach September because they kept talking about the different pictures! My mom saw the date and said "OMG does that say Baby's due?!?" Lots of happy hugs and congratulations followed.

Our second and third announcements they were very happy for us, but more expected since they all knew we wanted our kids close together.
