Insomnia- unisom?

My insomnia is starting to kick into full gear. It happened immediately with DS so I was hopeful. I know unisom is safe for ms has anyone tried it for insomnia? I fall asleep fine but can't stay asleep. Or another recommendations. I wasn't working the first trimester with DS so I just napped during the day but he won't let me get away with that now

Re: Insomnia- unisom?

  • I've never tried unisom, but I have taken Tylenol PM
  • Did either of them make you groggy?
  • I've heard of unisom being used for insomnia. Benadryl works too.

From what I understand essential oils are not tested on pregnant women so there is no really way to find out if they are safe. Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

  • I talked with the dr today they suggested either unisom or Benadryl. DW slept in the spare room last night and I got to toss and turn as much as I wanted to get back to sleep, so I think we will go that route for now.

As for essential oils we have a diffuser we used with DS I could break it out

The problem is that this is the case with most things. I usually take melatonin to help with insomnia but always stop when I'm pregnant. There is no reason to believe that either essential oils or melatonin will actually cause any harm, there is just no research to show that they are safe either and therefore doctors can't recommend them.
  • Ugh, i fall asleep each night my head hits the pillow but already wake up sometimes to pee and have been waking up in the morning before my alarm earlier and earlier. I even stayed up a little later last night to hopefully make it to my alarm today. Guess a tired Friday it will be.
  • I'm coming in late to this - here's a little message from your friendly pharmacist (ME!)... Unisom is pretty safe for use during pregnancy but it is in a class that will help you fall asleep but do very little to help you stay asleep. Womp womp. Sorry!
