I love my doctor, but the hospital he's at is 30-45 minutes from home without traffic. Anyone else thinking about changing Doctors because of location? Am I being crazy?
I'm thinking about changing doctors, not because of the location, but my doctor only had morning appointments at the office closer to me. My husband is out of work at 2, so we have to drive to the office further away to accommodate. I'm not thrilled. I looked at another office, but they aren't doing first appointments until end Jan/beginning of February. And they won't just skip the first and move straight to the 12 week appointment, even though I'll be 12 weeks by the time I get in. I don't know.
With my first, my doctor was a convenient location to my work, but the office/hospital was about 40 min from home. It was fine as far as driving there in labor since I knew it wasn't likely to be quick (we arrived at the hospital around 8pm and dd wasn't born until 5am).
I did switch due to location this time around because I'm only working part time so it's not convenient to go to regular Dr appointments anymore, especially carting a toddler who hates the car with me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. At my appointment today we decided to stay with the current team. I've had a complicated pregnancy so far, and the doc pointed out that it would be tough to find someone new I'm comfortable with who will also understand the history. So, decision kind of made for me.
I'm in the same boat @dtomczik -- I love my doctor, but she's 30-45 minutes away. The entire practice is pretty great (including the people at the front desk), and I've never had a doctor who I like as much. If she gets test results on the Saturday of a holiday weekend, she will call me to let me know what they are and to go over what it means.
I switched to her from doctors closer to where I live, and I really don't want to go back to them. A friend delivered at a hospital closer to where we live, so I may ask her about her OB once we're further along.
My doc is about 45+ minutes away. I actually drove there in labor with my son last time. I worked close to my doc and my son decided my last day of work was the best day to start contractions. So I just drove from home to the hospital.
You can check for a doc you like closer to home but remember babies can take time to get here. So if you really like your doc and hospital I would keep it
Omg. That's exactly my current problem. My doctor is all the way on the other side of the metroplex, about 45 without traffic (during rush hour it would probably be over an hour). I have just slowly moved further from him over the years, and now that I am pregnant, I DON'T want to change! I have seen him for years, and he knows my family, so it's a hard decision. I just hate the drive, and I would have to take an extra 2 hours of PTO time every time I visit. So, I have done research and may have found someone 10 min away, but it's still a hard decision. I haven't completely made up my mind, but I will probably just switch.
