Postpartum wrap/girdle?

Anyone have any experience, recommendation, advice with these? Any preferences?

Re: Postpartum wrap/girdle?

  • I'm planning on using my moby wrap at first and then just throwing on my spanx when the bleeding chills out some.

  • Yes! I used them with both of my other two and they WORK. I still had to lose weight and be healthy of course, but they helped my abdomen go down REALLY fast, plus they were nice support when everything still feels soft after the baby is out. I tried a few and honestly my favorite was the one the hospital will usually just give you for free if you ask the nurses. It wraps around you and it's thick but very flexible and it breathes which is nice. I wore mine starting about 10 hours post partum and wore it for weeks. Loved it. I do NOT recommend the belly bandit. I hated it and it was too stiff and laughably visible under clothes.

  • Like PP said, my doctor confirmed our hospital will give us one for free if we just ask so I'm going to go with that version! There are so many crazy options, I'd rather just take the one given to me. I may interchange with my spanx depending.

As a note, some people are super against waist trainer/girdles/wraps because they have read studies that it CAN mess with your pelvic floor muscles and/or prevent core strength from developing, etc. Obviously work on strengthening your TVA muscles if you are to wear a wrap, but it won't ruin you
  • Also, the ones you get at the hospital are good because they are not a waist trainer (I'm against those too) and you can control the pressure. Some of the things marketed to PP women are full on girdles and I don't think that's healthy. The hospital one is called a compression wrap in case you want to buy your own and I felt very safe using it and my OB said it was a much better option that a girdle. I switched to spanx after a few weeks too and those work well longer term.

  • Does every hospital give a compression wrap?
  • I'm at a birthing center so I doubt they send me home with one. I was looking at one that you pull up over your stomach like spanx, but I feel like with all the bleeding and whatever else is going on down there I won't want to have to pull something up over my underwear. With a wrap I've heard it gives really good support and helps with breastfeeding. Just not sure which to get!
  • I think I used an ace bandage last time. Had hubs wrap it around me and it worked really well.

There's a huge difference between a waist trainer and a support wrap/girdle that is designed to be used post-partum. I am totally against waist trainers in general, and especially PP, but I am looking into getting a wrap. I found one on belliesinc.com that's developed by pelvic floor physiotherapists and comes with a PP workout program. My only drawback is it is quite expensive ($177CAD). I am having a homebirth so I won't have the option of a 'free one from the hospital' :(
