I finally have my first u/s scheduled for tomorrow morning when I should be 6w4d based on my ovulation date and PGAL brain is starting to kick in. I was a total space cadet at work all day, unable to focus b/c I'm anxious about tomorrow. My DP is out of town and so I'm going it solo. I am just hoping with everything I have that the little bean measures on target and has a strong heartbeat. If it's bad news, it will be particularly awful b/c I'll be alone with it and have to host a dinner party for a bunch of friends tomorrow night that don't know I'm pregnant. Anyway, please keep your fingers crossed for me!

My ultrasound went really well. It was the big comprehensive anatomy scan so we got to see my baby boy for over an hour! (He was being stubborn and was curled up in a ball so he wouldn't show his heart - I had to do some jumping jacks and be tilted backwards and sideways on the table before he cooperated). The OB I saw was so kind and after I explained to her that I was really anxious because I study birth defects for a living she walked me through everything and pointed out everything that was normal. He's measuring right on track 18w4d (I'm 18w2d by O date, 17w6d by LMP).

And, @redheadbride15 --that's a lot of acrobatics! Glad they finally got what they needed and we're kind enough to explain things. My ultrasound tech last time was super awesome and walked me through everything. It was so nice.
I'm sooooo nervous about my ultrasound tomorrow! I was feeling so sick and nauseated for so long and as much as it sucked, it provided constant reassurance that I was in fact pregnant. Well, the nausea stopped yesterday and I started getting some painful cramps. Yikes!!!!

@redheadbride15, congrats on your awesome scan!
@jilligan14, I'll be thinking of you today and keeping everything g crossed that all is well with your little bean!

great ultrasound @redheadbride15, cracking up at you doing exercise to get that baby to cooperate!!
Good luck today @jilligan14, let us know how it goes:)
My first OB visit went well today and we got to see our little bean wiggling away in there with tiny little arm buds (so precious)! But boy did I get a scare in the beginning. It's a small office and the OB just wanted to use a Doppler to hear the heartbeat. I was surprised since I thought I would be getting an ultrasound. She couldn't hear anything with the Doppler and then told me not to panic while she went to find the ultrasound machine. Yikes! But luckily we were able to see the little nugget on the ultrasound and it's fast flickering heartbeat. She didn't do anything official to measure the heartbeat but said it looked like it was around 160. Does this seem normal (to just eyeball a heartbeat)? The RE's office was just more professional and advanced in comparison. I go to the hospital on the 25th for a more detailed ultrasound and genetic work. She wants me to get a Cell-Free DNA test and I've never heard of that one before.
Anyway, all in all it was good and reassuring and I'm thankful to still be pregnant. And the nausea is back in all its glory!

Also, I should do a post about cell free DNA testing... But the basics: it's a non-invasive test (blood sample from mom) for the most common chromosome disorders. It takes advantage of the fact that some of baby's DNA makes its way into mom's bloodstream (crazy, I know!). The test can detect that fetal DNA. It is very, very accurate for the trisomies - 21 (Down syndrome), 13 & 18 (which are rarer but much more severe). Some of the tests can also detect other types of chromosome disorders and fetal sex. They should explain exactly what the test will report when you go in to talk with them.

@CarrieandRoy - I've definitely heard the other names thrown around and didn't realize they were all the same thing. Whew, that's a relief. I was worried I was getting some strange test I'd never heard of before! Where would I be without you gals?!?!?!
