Postpartum Bleeding

Hi ladies,

Surprisingly I couldn't find anything about this in the search..

Just wondering about everyone's postpartum bleeding experiences have been like. I'm 16 days pp and still having bright red bleeding. Too heavy for a panty liner, changing my regular flow pad about every 4 hours or so. Everything I've read says it should start to slow down or at least turn pink by about 7-10 days pp. my midwife says it's fine but there is definitely a language barrier there and I don't always trust her opinion..

Thanks!

Re: Postpartum Bleeding

  • I'm also 16 days PP and mine is off and on bright red. Sometimes I won't even bleed for a whole day, then I'll bleed bright red. Have you been pretty active? Are you breastfeeding? My doctor told me ill notice changes depending on how active I am...if you're lazy one day you may bleed lightly or not at all, then if you're active the next day (cleaning house, grocery shopping...etc etc) you may notice bright red bleeding again or a heavier flow. While you breastfeed your uterus contracts which causes bleeding. Eventually he said it'll slow down and end with a yellowish discharge which is also normal.

  • I'm 5 weeks PP and my bleeding stopped at 4 weeks than started up again this week full force(clots and heavy flow). I don't know if it's a period or if it's from PP. I have an OB apt in a few weeks so we'll see what they say. I'm giving it a few days and if it's still super heavy I may call.
  • I bled 6 weeks after my first, 4 and 2 weeks after my second/third baby.
  • 16 days pp and I have bright red bleeding, much different than the bleeding I had just 3 days ago even. Oddly enough it's mostly when I wipe as opposed to filling a pad. I'd almost be convinced it was a period otherwise.
  • The heavy flow stopped while in the hospital on day 2 or 3. It was light until week 2 or so and then I randomly spotted until week 3, then nothing. I did have a c section and lost more blood then they liked immediately after.
  • At 11 days pp I still have bright red blood as well. Called my Dr today and she said its perfectly normal...as long as there are no large clots and no gushes of blood and not filling a pad in 1-2 hr
  • I'm 5 days PP and barely have any bleeding left. It's a strange pink / yellow color and really light. Every once in a while it'll be a stronger red / pink usually right after I BF. Sorry TMI. I'm an off one though because after birth I had hemorrhaging and my uterus wouldn't contract so they pumped me full of meds (pitocin, cytotec (sp?) and something else that starts with an M) so my doctor thinks that is why my bleeding is so strange.
  • Thanks for the replies ladies!
  • Over 3 weeks PP and still bleeding/needing a pad
  • I'm 14 days PP and I typically get a gush of blood after BF and pumping, which I assume is due to my uterus contracting.
  • I'm at 21 days and still red, but light. It was coming and going but over the last week it's been consistent. Dr says it's due to breastfeeding/pumping. I can't wait for it to stop
