2 sacks but only one heartbeat?

Two sacks but only one heartbeat. Has anyone had this happen to them? I was in shock and I didn't ask any questions!!!! Dr said the first sack is way smaller and doesn't think it will ever developed a heartbeat. But is there a chance it will? 6 1/2 weeks

  • I'm sorry, but..seriously? you're going to take a bunch of untrained, internet strangers' opinions over your doctor's?
  • I would assume your doctor knows best.

  • I agree with the other posters that your doctor knows best. This has happened to two friends of mine, and one did find a heartbeat at the next appointment (but I think she was five weeks at her first appointment), but with my other friend, there was no baby and the sack was empty. So really, it's a toss up on what can happen and only time will tell.

  • I would think of what you want to ask your doctor and call her/him back to talk more.  It's really hard to think of what to ask in that moment when you've just gotten unexpected news and are trying to process it all--I've been there.  I would want to know what the details are here.  Why doesn't the doctor think the smaller sac will develop?  Because of it's size in relation to the other sac?  Because of it's size in relation to how far along you are?  What are symptoms you need to watch for and alert the doctor if they happen?  Do you have a follow up scan scheduled, or what is the plan?
