Feeling off color

I was just wondering for the ladies who have given birth before how did you feel the days lewding up to going in to labor? Did you feel off? Or unwell?
I have been having prelabor contraction (braxton hicks etc) regulary the past 7 days. Ive had my show and lost mucus plug in the last few days. And since yesterday I have been so achy and crampy in my abdomen and legs. Very gassy and have had bouts of diarrhea tmi sorry. I feel very very bored and impatient. I feel drained but cant settle into sleep. I also feel hot and uncomfortable and feel like im getting sick. Bub is engaged and has been for about 2 weeks but dropped even further in the last 3 or 4 days. Im hoping this means something is going to happen real soon. But i dont want to get my hopes up like I have before as it leads to me getting frustrated and wanting to cry.
Did anyone else experience this or similar. Or nothing at all? First time mum here and i am 38 weeks as of tomorrow

Re: Feeling off color

  • I did not feel anything different before my first. But he also came at 37+1 and I totally wasn't expecting it. My water broke as the first sign of labor. I was still working 25 hours a week and going to medical school full time. I wasn't really ready.

This time I am past the 37 week mark and have been feeling off myself the last few days. However, everything makes me think that maybe baby is coming. Because the last one came so early and quickly there is so much anticipation at this point.

  • Interested to see answers to this. I've been feeling weird myself.
  • I also feel off today. Woke up at 4am and though I was tired I could not fall back asleep. I just feel ick and weird and beat. With my first I had a ton of energy the day I went into labor. Baked cookies, went to Bed Bath and Beyond, cleaned. So this is quite different. I'm also wondering what other ladies say.
  • I'm not sure what's due to possible labor or just being super duper pregnant. At 30 weeks a US tech said she has never seen a baby "this low" this early on (whatever) so baby has been low since then....BH contractions all the time (currently), back ache, nauseous, tired but then crazy bouts of energy for no reason, restless, leg cramps, lightening crotch, hungry, SUPER full...... like I'm feeling ALL the feels.......38+6
  • New Year's Eve I would have bet money on the fact I was going into labour. I'd had a couple of mucus shows leading up to the day, I woke with pains and had diarrhoea frequently all day, I got a bad head ache and had a random heavy nose bleed in the bath. All these things combined I really thought it was the beginning. No such luck, I was just having an 'off' day. I'm due tomorrow and no signs of baba yet. I just think what we would normally just shrug off as being a little tired or under the weather we are clutching to because we are so excited to meet our babys. I'm a FTM so have no idea what labour feels like or what to expect so I think it's the fear of the unknown that's getting me clutching at straws at any little sign. All I know is this baba will come when he/she wants. As hard as that is to accept I'm slowly starting too. I really hope your signs are the first signs of labour, fingers crossed for you.
  • I was induced, so I guess I can't really tell you how I felt leading up to labor- except for I felt crappy being confined to a hospital bed...
But, I knew my water was about to break..
When I sat up in bed, I could feel something inside me. I could feel it when I laughed, coughed, moved.
Like imagine the "I reallllllyyyyy have to pee, I'm about to pee myself" feeling but in your vagina ( I had a cath in so I knew it wasn't bladder related)
The phlebotomist came in at 5:10am to get blood...
She stuck me, got blood, turned back to her phlebotomy cart and (Pop, gush) my water broke accompanied by bloody show..

After that came the contractions and feeling like crap - baby was born 5hrs and 6mins later
  • My first was exactly on time, my second was 6 days late and I went into labor hours before a scheduled induction- both times I felt completely normal before contractions started, whereas about a week or two before labor I had multiple days with each where I'd feel off or sick and be thinking, oh labor is TOTALLY starting now, and I was always wrong. With both I woke up in the middle of the night having contractions so I also may have missed the really early part as I'm a deep sleeper and by the time I woke up there was no doubt what was happening.

  • I've been feeling really off the last two days too and have had some inconsistent contractions overnight. No labor yet but I'm hoping this all means it's close. For baby #1 I woke up in the morning and somehow 'knew' that was the day. Sure enough I went into labor that night. This pregnancy has been so different so I just have no idea. One thing is for sure, they'll be here sooner than later! We just have to hang in there (trying to convince myself this as much as encourage you ;) )
