Long Braxton hicks contractions

This is more curiosity than anything, but has anybody noticed their Braxton hicks lasting much longer? I time them sometimes and I have quite a few that won't loosen up for several minutes. I know I'm not in labor yet and that the sporadic contractions are very normal, just wondering if anybody else has noticed this? I'm 38 weeks.

Re: Long Braxton hicks contractions

  • Yes! I have been having long BH's too! They always end up going away eventually, but they're really annoying when they're happening. I am also 38 weeks, and am planning to ask my doctor about it at my appointment today.

  • @ashs88 let me know what they say! I totally forgot to ask yesterday.
  • Yes! Mine have been lasting several minutes at a time.
  • My mom told me that her contractions with me were 20 minutes long...could be a bit of an exaggeration, or it could be true. But they def weren't "normal"

I also was 3 weeks late and my mom was in labor with me for 3 days so....

Praying my labor won't be karma for what my mom went through! Eek!
  • I feel like my life is just one long BH contraction at this point. But I've been getting them since 20 weeks and it was the same with my last pregnancy.
  • @WineBaby122 I'm the same way. I first noticed them at like 18 weeks and the ob nurse didn't believe me that I was already having them. It's all day every day, so it was extra pleasant when they started lasting 3 times as long, lol. It's definitely gotten old.
  • I brought it up to my midwife today and she didn't seem alarmed by it. I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm having one anymore unless I touch my belly they are so frequent. Then other times they are super uncomfortable.
