Thunderstorms inducing labor.

I am from California & im pretty sure mommas to be around this area are aware of the heavy rains & thunderstorms that will be occuring this following week. I am due on the 7th which is a day away ! And today the 6th there is a thunderstorm approaching. Ive heard that storms and or hurricanes cause women to go into labor due to low barometric pressure. Is anyone aware of this or has heard of it ? Old wives tale or true ?

Re: Thunderstorms inducing labor.

  • I'm in southern Ca and it's been pouring here like crazy. I've heard of this but I think it's just an old wives tale.

  • I don't know if there is any real evidence but I have heard L&d nurses say there is an increase in babies during storms. I have also been watching the weather and noticing that it is supposed to rain here soon. Good luck!
  • We have had a few snow storms lately and I crossed my fingers each time that this would be true!! So far it hasn't worked for me :(
  • My first was born during a really bad thunderstorm.

Let's hope so! I am ready to deliver my baby today! I'm in Southern California and in so much chronic pain that I need to do this. C'mon on T-storms! I was having pretty intense contractions from about 6-11 pm last night. Very hard tightening, sort of non-stop. Tried to drink water to see if it was a fluke but they were pretty sticky, but then of course went to bed and woke up, nada really. Mild period cramps. I'm only 38+5 today so I know I could be in for at least another week or two. I hope the barometric pressure assists me in my discomfort haha.
  • Oh another person from LA? Hi! I sure hope so I've been having false labor since Sunday night and I am sick of it.

  • Hey LA ladies :) I hope this is true! It's been raining cats and dogs here but I have heard of that as well. Maybe the thunderstorms scare the little ones out!
  • San Diego here....I sort of half way hope this is true, and am sort of terrified at the thought of having to get all the way to the hospital with all these flooded roads!!! I am 37w2d, baby is measuring 38w now, and I am sooo ready!!
  • In KS here, we've had different rainy/snowy/icy weather off and on for several weeks and I'm still sitting tight here at 40+5. Hope it works for you guys because it didn't for me!
  • Where are these thunderstorms at?!
  • Thunderstorm happened yesterday. I was having contractions and got really excited.... And then they stopped. Never in my life have I begged to be in pain. But I literally am begging for ANYTHING that could possibly start labor. I want the contractions. I feel psychotic for crying over NOT being in labor. I'm losing my damn mind.
  • This got my hopes up a little too as I'm in LA area as well. I've been having intense tightening non stop since Tuesday night, to the point where when leaving for work yesterday we made sure to have our hospital bags in our cars as opposed to by the door at home. But no signs of labor. Just fun intense nonstop sharp pains and increasing back pains. 38 weeks today.
