Safe decongestants?

What do you take for severe congestion while pregnant? I didn't get sick at all during my first pregnancy so I never had to worry about it. Now here I am almost 9 weeks in and I'm sick for the THIRD time....thanks daycare uuugh. This time my congestion is really taking a toll and I can't sleep or be productive at work. I'm already on antibiotics, but it's not doing anything - must be viral

. My RE said that most OTC stuff is safe, but really didn't give me an specifics, and the internet isn't much help. Has anyone taken anything that they know is safe? I'm looking for something other than just saline spray and a humidifier, which doesn't do much, if anything, for me. Maybe something like Afrin??

Bump for ya. I don't know but I hope you feel better. I always felt like I had to suffer through pregnancy while sick, but I know tons of women take medicine.

Ugh...sorry to hear you're feeling so crummy! I have a medication list for Pregnancy given to me by my Healthcare Provider. Actifed and Sudafed are on that list.

I'm not healthcare provider by ANY means, but maybe you can call your clinic to double check if those will work for you. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Just had this problem. My OB also said Actifed and Sudafed sparingly.

My OB cleared Sudafed, any of the basic Tylenols and Mucinex. I also used a netipot and saline spray. Hope you feel better soon!

I was told Sudafed by my doctor's office, but when I went to two different pharmacies both pharmacists strongly urged against it in the first trimester. I decided to suffer through it rather than risk it. I was told to just try the saline spray and Vick's. It ended up going away after about 10 days.

I've been managing my chronically stuffy nose from allergies reasonably well with (a) breathe right strips at night, (b) rinsing with a neti-pot a couple times a week, and (c) Rhinacort nasal spray. I tried just (a) and (b) for a few days, and it was disaster. Pre-pregnancy, I habitually took zyrtec-D twice a day... so it's been an adjustment!
