Nesting? Not so much...

Any other second or third or fourth time moms feel like the whole nesting instinct is going to skip you this time, or has it with your other kids? I've actually felt better the last couple weeks than I have through most of this pregnancy and today I had great energy and was in a great mood but had zero motivation to actually do anything productive other than go grocery shopping. With my first I went on a cleaning bender that lasted three days which was really something considering our house at the time was only 800sq ft. Just wondering if it's gonna hit me this time or not.

Re: Nesting? Not so much...

  • I guess the question is am I nesting when I have energy or am I just cleaning like crazy because I don't want anyone to judge me if they come to my house? I'll go a few days doing the bear minimum then deep clean. But I do feel like my nesting this time is really stupid stuff, repainting doors, organizing the closets.

  • First time mom here and never got the urge to nest. I was looking forward to the burst of energy but it never came. My due date is Wednesday, so I guess my nesting ship has sailed.
  • I have not felt like moving off the couch after I get home from work in weeks! But, I woke up at 5 AM on Saturday and *had* to pack up all the Christmas decorations, when I finished that I did several loads of laundry and cleaned the kitchen. It only lasted one day and I am back to my lazy couch sitting ways now :)
  • I'm due Saturday and with a hurricane of a 12 month old, nesting is useless. I have very little energy as it is, but the thought of cleaning just for DS to wreak havoc all over again? Not happening.
  • STM here and my nesting this time around has been more focused on unpacking and organizing our whole house from when we moved on Dec 18th and then cleaning out old duplex to get it inspection ready before this new litle guy decides to arrive. I feel like NOTHING is ready for baby but the house is getting organized so I won't worry about it when we have a newborn and my MIL here. I'm 37 weeks and 1 day today. Hopefully everything gets done before DS#2 arrives!!
  • I am normally ready for a nap by 10:30 am. Still waiting on said "burst of energy" or "nesting bug". I'm too exhausted most days to do much.

  • My idea of "nesting" is bossing the hubby around and making him do things lol. I usually get a few hours of this on Saturdays. Week days after work were both too pooped!
  • I have the urge to nest but zero energy to do so by the time I get home from work. I did nest at work by thoroughly cleaning my desk including scrubbing my phone cord lol.
  • FTM and the nesting ship also never came my way. I have lots of things I would love to get done, because they're necessary, but I have zero urge to do anything crazy like scrub the walls or stuff like other people have told me I would want to do. Heck, I have to force myself to take a shower. Because, you know. Standing up.
  • I have found nesting to be impossible with a 2 year old and 5 year old in the house. I can hardly keep up with the messes they make let alone scrubbing out my closets.
  • FTM here and I am still waiting (36 weeks + 1) for that nesting urge to kick in!  I'm walking with a cane though, so maybe that's preventing it from kicking in.  (Everything I do is SO. SLOW. it's very frustrating.)  I'm hoping I get some sort of burst of organizational energy though!  And soon!
  • 38w today and I have definitely noticed some nesting. Weirdly enough DH has had a lot more nesting instinct for putting things in their place and making sure everything is clean. My nesting has revolved around food. Freezer meals, canned food, snacks, you name it I have it ready and waiting for when LO arrives. God forbid there be no food in this house.
  • I have a strong desire for things to be clean, tidy, organised and ready. But not really the energy to see it through, and unfortunately DH does not share this desire. So I'm trying to do a little bit each day and I feel like I'm getting there. MIL is arriving a few days before due date to stay with us for a while, and I know she'll be really helpful and wanting to pitch in so I figure she'll help cover anything important that hasn't been done yet.

Really wish I had that burst of energy, but I think there's still time!
  • I've been "nesting" for about three weeks now. I have cleaned my house from top to bottom several times in those three weeks (including yesterday). Scrubbing floors, doors, walls, base boards, organizing already organized closets/cupboards...you name it. I also freaked out on DH this weekend letting him know that he needs to support my cleaning habits. Which is funny, because DH is already a pretty cleanly guy. I have laid down the law though. No dropping laundry on the floor before bed...it goes in the hamper or the drawer. No dishes in the sink. Bed has to be made every morning. Kitchen has to be spotless. Baby better come soon, because my house is ready NOW, and I don't know how long this energy will last!
  • Ok maybe a little bit last night... first bit of nesting hit last night. I removed the cover to the infant car seat and the glider swing and sent them through the washing machine. I also finally got around to making the letters of her name for the wall.
As for actual cleaning, still nothing.
  • With 5 kids nesting is pretty non existent. It's always a challenge keeping the house in the order that I like. That being said my older kids and myself have been on a cleaning kick mainly because I don't want to have to deal with a mess when I come home from the hospital. That and the in-laws are coming, regardless of me telling them they aren't welcome.
  • I have had zero nesting instincts this time and I barely have the necessities for the baby.  I don't know what it is w/ #3 but I've had such an idc attitude about getting prepared that I kind of feel bad.  But, I have what we need and since we are team green and our house is for sale and we are not doing a nursery, there really isn't that much to be done.

  • Me and my Hubby have been deep cleaning, organizing and throwing away SO MUCH over the last 2 weeks. He had the 2 weeks during the holidays off of work which worked out really well to help get things done before baby comes and there are numerous family members in and out of our house. I'm loving the energy and feel like all this cleaning can only help time go by more quickly and be a good workout as well! Hoping with a clean house it will be easier to keep up on the housework once baby arrives without feeling overwhelmed.
  • I don't know if it's really nesting but I will sit at home all day on my butt tired as hell but as soon as it comes time to go to bed I start deep cleaning sort of. The bathroom and my favorite place is the kitchen. Drives my husband insane!
  • My nesting this time is trying to find a way to keep my almost 2 year old's toys contained. Other than that I have no desire to do anything but "relax" as much as I can while entertaining/chasing said 2 year old
