Bleeding at 7 weeks?

Hi everyone.. I found out I was pregnant on the 20 of December. Due date august 21 (or so far anywaus)So excited as I had a chemical pregnancy back in September.. so far I have noticed fatigue, slight nausea, irritableness, and super sore breasts. I started spotting dark brown Saturday morning the 2nd. It continued, Sunday morning woke up and went to the restroom, and the toilet was bright red. I have not filled a single pad. I had one clot the size of a quarter, but nothing since. Still bleeding today, but it has lessened up and is now a darker red. I have my first appointment on Friday. I know it could be a misccariage, but I'd just like to talk to someone about my scares. or if anyone a little further along experienced this.

Re: Bleeding at 7 weeks?

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. No pregnant woman wants to see blood, ever. I went through the same thing around 5.5 weeks pregnant with my daughter who is now 10 months old - bright and dark red bleeding with some small clots, not enough to fill a pad.  It lasted a day and my primary care doctor sent me to the emergency room.  No one could tell me why the bleeding happened and everything looked OK via transvaginal ultrasound in the ER.  I would call your OB to see if they want you to go to the ER or if they can make some room to see you today.

I really hope it turns out as well for you as it did for me with my previous pregnancy. I know how stressful it is.  Hugs.

  • Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the earliest they can see me is Friday, and my doctor does not seem concerned enough with the amount of bleeding to tell me to go to the doctor. Even though it has lasted three days now it's not heavy at all, just red so concerning. I haven't had any cramping except a few minor twinges Saturday morning. I don't want to jinx myself, but I do still feel pregnant. My breasts still hurt quite a bit, I'm just nervous because of last time. Even though this pregnancy has progressed further, I'm still having trouble believing it until I SEE it, but know I will be devestated if I get the bad news.
  • I'm shocked that the earliest they'll see you is Friday.  I would just go there!  This happened to me during my first pregnancy - around 5w I had some cramping at work so I went to the bathroom and there was bright red blood in my undies.  I called and went straight to the dr's office.  It turned out to be an SCH bleed and it resolved almost immediately, but I did have some light brown spotting for about a week after.  This time right around the same time in the pregnancy I actually had severe pain and cramping, like doubled over in pain, way worse than last time, again while I was at work, and I went to the bathroom only to see blood dripping into the toilet.  Again I immediately went to the dr and they did an u/s and we still saw the sac.  The rest of the day I continued to cramp and bleed, i even passed a clot the size of a matchbox car.  The next morning I went back and they didn't another u/s because I requested it for peace of mind, and they also did blood work and my hcg had actually dropped even though they did still see the sac.  Since my hcg dropped I was sure I was having a miscarriage, it just hadn't happened yet.  So a few days later I went in for regular monitoring and baby was still there and we were even able to hear the heartbeat and my hcg went way up again and things have looked good ever since.  While it's not fun, weird things can happen, especially early on.  Hang in there and try to get in earlier than Friday, that just seems preposterous to me that they'd make a bleeding pregnant woman wait that long!

  • Thanks for sharing! Sadly they have limited space, doctors, and appointments. If my bleeding gets any worse I will go to the ER. I know that technically if it is a MC there is nothing they can do. it is calming me down that I still have symptoms, and a positive home test. also the bleeding is still there, but even lighter than it has been. Hopefully it stops with in the next day or two. I'm also really hoping that it didn't happen because of work, I work in a factory so it very well could be.
  • That's so frustrating   :s   I was at my dr within 20 minutes each time I saw blood....you'd think they'd want to see what's up right away.  Fingers crossed for you that all is well!

  • They aren't the most caring, but they know what they are doing so I trust them. I do wish I could go in! But I will wait, just hoping all is well. I want this baby so much it hurts. Haha. My first mc left me so heart broken.
  • FX for you. You're doing the right thing by remaining positive and trusting your healthcare provider.

@SkiChic626 There is no need for her to see a doctor and no doctor would want to see her urgently. Unfortunately, miscarriages are common and nothing can be done to stop it if it has begun. So, there's truly no need for an emergent appointment unless one is filling more than one pad per hour (extreme blood loss) or has significant symptoms that mirror an ectopic. Some women bleed daily due to SCHs or other reasons. Can you imagine the constraints that would place on the office and the effect it would have on insurance rates if everyone rushed to the doctor within 20 minutes of seeing blood? Personally, I think that's just ridiculous.
  • Kristin712  I bled with a SCH bleed during pregnancy #1 and this time something else, they couldn't identify what it was, and I was in that office everyday for the entire week and they happily took me and even told me to come to ease my mind.  In my experience, and what all of my REs, OBs and midwives have said is that any red blood is cause for concern even though it may be nothing - minor spotting not necessarily.  And it wasn't my "choice" to be there in 20 mins, I called and they told me to come right away, so it wasn't my call.  Not trying to be snarky, but I think it's sort of rude that you're essentially downplaying (maybe not the right word, but you get what I'm saying) my experiences.  I'm speaking to OP based on my experiences, and frankly I'm shocked that they wouldn't see her sooner, or at the very least advise her to go to the ER to get a u/s to see if the sac was still there.  7 days is a long time to keep someone in limbo like that.  Red blood is no joke, even if it's just a minor SCH bleed it CAN have an effect on the baby and I would think any good dr would want to monitor that.  I'm ever grateful that mine did now with both my pregnancies!

  • I had some bleeding last week (right at 7 weeks) - bright red, and not enough to fill a pad but enough to scare the heck out of me. Spotting for a couple of days after that, but today I had an ultrasound & saw the little bub and heartbeat and everything. Fingers crossed for you!
