Prior c section mamas .... Belly flap?

Hi ladies

Hoping for some insight. I searched but couldn't find much. I had a scheduled c section 8 days ago, my first was a vaginal. I the past few days I've noticed as some of the weight has come off I look like I have this belly flap over my incision. Almost like they tightened a belt on my lower belly and there is fat hanging over. It's seriously unattractive. Obviously I'm not back to my normal weight yet, still need to go down around 18 pounds or so but I'm just wondering has anyone experienced this? I'm getting concerned that it has something to do with the incision. Even when I was losing the weight with my first this was never an issue.

Re: Prior c section mamas .... Belly flap?

  • I've had 2 prior sections and about a week after my belly looks like a deflated Santa belly. It's awful. Last time I used my binder and it helped significantly. It just takes time but you will get back to normal.

  • What PP said. It won't look "right" for a while. Don't stress your not alone.

  • If you can get the compression band. It helped so much with my first and I plan on using it again with this one... took a while to get it down completely but that just because your muscles need to repair and get your core strength back... I've been seeing a physical therapist the whole time with this pregnancy and we have a plan for about 4 weeks after the surgery to get back to it.
  • I'm having this issue with this c-section, but I did not with my first. I look like I have a beer belly. It is all just swollen tissue, bloat, and honestly constipation. The muscles need to heal from being pregnant, the tissues around the incision need to heal from being jerked around by the surgery, the everything needs to heal from the bruising and swelling and all of the everything. I couldn't stand the binder band (too much like a corset to me), so I just dress loosely and hope that I look like I just had a baby.
