2 Month Shots and Tylenol

I'm wondering if you ladies give your LOs Tylenol before or after shots or not at all? Google says not before, but I've heard mixed reviews. I'm going to call my pedi tomorrow, but wondered what your experiences have been like.

What I have heard is that you shouldn't before their first round of shots because you don't want it to mask their reaction to the vaccine. With that said, I don't know whether that's the right thing to do or not.

I didn't. I wouldn't give him meds if it isn't necessary but that's just me.

My pedi said to give Tylenol when I got home after the shots if needed. DS never needed it, he was always fine before we left the dr office. I nursed DS after the shots and that calmed him right down.

Our pedi just told us to give shots if he developed a fever, which he said happens in about 5% of babies. Mine got shots today (Jan. 4), and aside from a brief screaming fit when he first got the shots, he has been fine. Sleeping like crazy though!

My girl was relatively fine during her shots last week but lost her ever loving mind 4 hours later when she woke up from a nap. Tylenol worked amazing- she was able to actually eat and sleep again: we only needed two doses and then she was back to normal.

I didn't give anything. And doctor recommended not giving it bc a fever was the body's normal reaction. Unless it got really high. My little guy did pretty good but came home and completely passed out for two hours that afternoon. We did two shots and one oral vaccine. They wanted to give him 5-6 that day but I thought that was way too many so we go back next week for the others. I'm trying to space them out some.

Girlfriend slept for 6 hours after her shots, but when she woke up all hell broke loose. She wouldn't take her bottle because stretching her legs made her scream so badly. We only needed one dose and she was fine. She reacted way differently to her shots than DD1.

Our pedi has always told us to give a dose of Tylenol before the shots and after if they are feeling uncomfortable/have a low fever.

My pedi said give half a dose of Tylenol before they come in so he doesn't feel totally crappy. Also my pedi will let me nurse while giving shots. She said half the time, babies dont even flinch because they're so relaxed. Maybe see if they'll let you hold lo close to you or something so the freak-out stays at a minimal.

I gave a dose before with my other 2 but that was 8 and 6 years ago. When I scheduled my appt this time they said no need to do it before but maybe after if LO really needs some.

My LO's shots aren't till next week, but the ped at her last appt said to have Tylenol on hand for after, in case she gets a fever or seems uncomfortable, and to call and come back in if the fever/fussiness goes on longer than the day of.

My ped specifically said not to pre-dose her with Tylenol. I'm going to get a bottle to have on hand afterward if she is fussy.

One of the reasons they don't want you to give the Tylenol before the shots is because the dosage is based on weight, and you won't know their weight until the appointment.

That being said, neither of my girls needed Tylenol for the 2month shots, but from what I remember from big sister, the 4month ones were a lot rougher!

Mine never mentioned anything about Tylenol before the appointment. So I'll just make sure to have it on hand afterward.

No tylenol we had our 2 month shots last week. I nursed right after to calm her and she slept a lot that day and then was good to go. I'm not a big believer in meds when they aren't needed. Even a low grade fever is fine and doesn't need meds. I definitely wouldn't medicate before but use your parental intuition to determine in they need it after the shots.

I believe my ped said she would get 3 shots and an oral serum at 2 months. The link is the CDC recommended vaccine schedule. Some of the vaccines are combined into one shot.

We just got back from the pedi and she said Tylenol if his fever is over 101. But fever is natural. I nursed right after and he was fine.

LO just had hers this morning. She didn't mind the oral one, but she cried really hard during the shots. We nursed afterward and she settled right down. She's mostly been sleeping it off since then, whimpering a bit here and there. We just finished a change and another nursing session and now she's sleeping peacefully on my chest.

Jordan got her shots yesterday. She cried really hard...and I shed a tear or two. Once I fed her, she calmed down. Unfortunately, I think she is getting a cold. I know it's the first of many, but I hate that she isn't feeling well.
