So many stuffed animals!

Okay I'm not a hoarder I promise, but I can't get rid of stuffed animals. We've got my old ones, hubbys old ones, and of course we're getting a ton from people for the baby. My question is what are you guys doing with all of yours?? I know it's not safe for baby for them to go in the crib, and she's sharing a bedroom with us, so it's not like I can put them on a dresser or another piece of nursery furniture. Also they have to be in a place where the dog can't get them because she destroys them! Right now we're keeping them in the crib but once baby gets here I have no idea where to put them.

Re: So many stuffed animals!

  • I bought a stuffed animal 'hammock' at Wal-Mart for $5..hangs on the corner of a wall. I was always against hanging one..but it has become a quick solution...i found it in the laundry organization section

  • I have a bin of stuffed animals and we're limiting it to that. 3 our new for Baby the others are from when I was a kid. The majority of them at Beanie Babies. And Ive been waiting to cut the tags off, since I still have stuck in my mind from when I was a kid "don't cut the tags off, they'll be worth a lot of money some day" hahaha

so much this. . . . We have one stuffed animal for the baby.  That's good enough for me.  Any others he gets will be returned or donated.  I hate clutter!!!
  • I can not stand stuffed animals yet I would guess I have over 70 in my house. My oldest son, 5yo, plays we the same 30 everyday, they are different mario characters. We keep the not mario ones in a bin for when my other son wants them. The only suggestion I would make is if you plan on baby having a "favorite" animal that they sleep with and stuff when they are older make it a common one that you can find, like the Ty ones. I had to rebuy the same monkey about 5 times for my oldest and giraffe twice for my second.

  • We ended up with tons, too. Of course right when I was about to get rid of them all, DD suddenly became interested in them. :/ we have a hope chest that multi-tasks as a stuffed toy holder, bench for the dogs under the window, and shelf for some of her other toys. I'd love to have them in a more accessible place for her, but our dogs, too, would destroy them all. They don't touch her toy balls, or her food, etc. but for some reason we canNOT get them to stop destroying fuzzy things. Grrr
  • I used to LOVE my stuffed animals, but a mouse got into the bag in the attic a few years back and none of them made it :(
I haven't bought any for baby since I also hate clutter and know that he doesn't need many, but we've already accumulated about 10 in the form of gifts, I have a toy hanger I made that hangs in the corner of the room (toys clip on with pegs), though this was mostly to hide the peeling paint in the corner of our rented place. Otherwise I would have absolutely gone with a toy hammock!

@nicmont89 I love your toy storage, you have a handy dad!
  • It only gets worse. I have two boys beyond this baby and SO MANY. We have to sit down and go through them and weed some out - it's getting ridiculous.

  • Thanks everyone! @BabyArnold2016 on the way to Walmart to get a toy hammock right now! Lol
  • I don't have a ton of stuffed animals for my one year old son or the new baby, but blankets are another story. So. Many. Blankets. Every size, shape, material you can imagine... I've got totes galore filled with them!
SO and I discussed it last night that we will keep the ones that were made for the kids, ones with sentimental value, or ones that the kids specifically favor, but the others are going to be donated.
I think the same goes for stuffed animals... now if only I could practice what I preach and go through my own stuffed animals in the garage.
  • I put a lot of them away and have been breaking them out at different times as DD gets older and is into different animals,  or to give to her as gifts for holidays.   EX: She got a really big Build a Bear Bunny that that I'll put in her Easter basket either this year or next.  There is also a cute giraffe which I'll save for after she's old enough to go to the zoo and feed the giraffes.

This is such a great idea! Almost makes me wish we had too many stuffed animals.

  • My 2.5 year old LOVES stuffed animals. He plays with them almost daily. He sleeps with a few and some are kept on his bed. I finally bought a tall/skinny wicker laundry basket to store the rest in. As he starts to acquire more I will weed out some he doesn't play with to donate. I'm also a huge fan of the space saver bags and will be happy to fill a bag later for storing under the bed or in the basement.

Great idea! Animal shelters will also take them for the cats and dogs to cuddle with as they wait to be adopted.
  • Tags stay on, regift to the next new baby in our circle that's born. We keep a couple, but the rest find new homes.
