I am a first grade teacher and am starting to think about ideas for announcing my pregnancy to my students. I am 12 weeks and know that I will be showing soon. Many of my coworkers know now, and I teach in a VERY small town where word travels quickly! Anyone else in a similar situation? I am not sure if 12 weeks is too early to announce to my students, but I also know that before long, one of them will be asking
Re: Any other teachers announcing to students soon?
I'm thinking of maybe playing Hangman on Friday afternoon to tell them and get it over with. That way I can immediately send them home with any baby making questions they come up with. I'm excited to see their reactions and see if any of them make any connection to the fact that I've run out of the room to vomit several times over the past few months.
I think it's fun that they'll get to be with me for pretty much the entire pregnancy.
So sorry to hear you had MS! Luckily, I didn't experience that, which I am so thankful for with teaching!
I also let them pick a nickname for the baby. After a lot of deliberation they settled on Sweet Pea. Bob and Sofa were both strong contenders.
If I had been pregnant with my class last year, I probably would have quit before the 2nd trimester.
I had one girl ask me today if I was pregnant, but I gave her an answer that didn't answer her question.
I figure when it's obvious that I'm pregnant, at least more obvious than it currently is, they will know.

That being said, LOTS, of me colleagues have played it differently, and I don't feel that they have done something wrong or anything. It's just not the view I take.
To each his own I guess.
