Gender reveal

We are going to do a gender reveal party this time. I've looked at ideas on how to announce at the party, but just not coming up with much that stands out that isn't totally over done. Is anyone doing a party? What are your ideas for the reveal?

Re: Gender reveal

  • We don't plan to find out baby's sex until delivery, so no party for us. Pinterest probably has some good ideas to poke through.
  • Loading the player...
  • We just did colored cream filled cupcakes... and all bit in them at the same time.  We aren't doing anything second time around (sorry baby #2).  The first, "gender reveal", was already at a family get together.  It wasn't a party for the baby.  We just thought we would add to the fun.

That's all I got!  Good luck.

  • One of my friends just did one that I thought was so unique. They had wore white tee-shirt and had their other 2 children squirt them with pink dye (you couldn't tell the color of the dye until it was on the shirts). Not sure if you have other kids you want included.
  • I friend of our set up black balloons on a foam archery target and her friend shot the big one (filled with paint) with his bow. I thought that was super cute and unique!
  • We're doing blue or pink filled cupcakes with my two daughters, my parents, and my ILs. I didn't do anything like this with the other 2 girls, but DD1 will be at school when I have my anatomy scan, and she was really bummed about not finding out with us, so we are going to have the tech write it down so we can all find out together. Once they heard about it, my mom and MIL wanted to join us, but it'll still be small.

  • We just did one for our families! At the gender determination US I had the lady put the gender in an envelope, then I brought the envelope to a local baker and they made a really cute cake with either pink or blue inside, our was blue!! A boy!!! It was a really fun way to find out, cutting into the cake and finding out at the same time as all our relatives, would definitely reccommend to do this it was so fun!!!!
  • I want to have the tech write it on a paper and put it in an envelope then take it to the local party store and have them put the colored balloons in a box then we'll open the box to reveal. I thought it would be fun for my nieces. A friend from highschool did something similar, but with confetti in a pinata and when they pulled the cord they got covered in pink confetti.

  • We had a mini pink and blue trees. We had people put blue or pink ornaments based on what they thought the sex was. They both had lights on them. When it was time to reveal we turned the lights off of the one it wasn't.

  • We did something similar for our party. ive realized that I'm awful at describing things so I attached the Pinterest site. It's popping balloons over blank canvases and than the art work it creates will go in baby's nursery ((or maybe my stairwell because it doesn't match my official nursery theme... But we'll see)) :-)

  • I saw a video online of someone who put blue powder in a closed container and then blew it up. Obviously that's probably not the safest way to go about things but it looked cool...

We did the balloons in a box thing and wrapped them up like gifts for Christmas. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.
  • I am going to do one when we get our news the last week en January. I want to do a volcano where it would erupt pink or blue--the old vinegar and baking soda thing.  My husband will know (he forced me to agree for him to find out ASAP) and he will make a salt dough volcano around a tall vase and put colored vinegar inside.  I will have a baking soda ball/bag and toss it in and watch it blow!
  • We will be doing to giant black balloon route. We will have our tech put the gender in an envelope and give it to a party store. They will either fill the balloon with pink or blue confetti. The party is this Saturday and we will pop it at the party and find out all at the same time.
  • Thank you for all the great ideas!

  • We had a friend who had a black balloon filled with colored glitter at Party City and they popped it to reveal the gender. The pictures came out great! Also, my sister in law did fireworks (but they knew the gender). They did red and blue instead of pink and blue.

  • We're doing balloons in a box and letting the boys open it. It's not for a party though. I just want a family picture of the boys looking the same direction and happy. I figured balloons coming from a box will work. My anatomy scan is the 13th, but I'm not sure when we will do the box thing since I'm going out of town that weekend.

  • Not sure how much time you have but I got most of my ideas/materials from Etsy. They have some cute stuff that you and dh can comb through !!!

We found out earlier then we expected based on test results so we just did a cake with colored filling to tell our immediate family all together. It was a memorable day !!! Good luck whatever you decide you have some great ideas from these ladies :)
  • We did a box with balloons and released them for my family on Christmas Eve....the only problem is we did the same thing on Christmas morning for DH's family and the balloons were too deflated to get out of the box lol
  • I am going to do the cake thing . But instead of pink or blue , I am doing orange for a girl and blue for a boy (huge Broncos fan) then I am having my family and a couple close friends over for the playoff game . If you think it's a girl wear orange if you think it's a boy wear blue and we will grill burgers and have drinks for everyone (but me lol) . We have a very close family on both sides so I love the idea of everyone finding out together and we get to watch the game which is great
  • I'm not doing a gender reveal but I've been to a few and seen some my friends posted on social media. Here is some ideas I've seen.
Having a cake made pink or blue, with pink and blue frosting on the inside
Having everyone take a cupcake and having 1 cupcake have pink or blue on inside
Opening a box of balloons with pink or blue inside
Popping a balloon with pink or blue confetti
As for parties themselves, I've seen pink and blue drink bars, pins with team pink or blue, for people to wear. I've seen pin tail (pink or blue) on donkey and other things like that.
    Good luck and have fun

  • Mines very rednecky but i gotta get my man involved ;) we are getting a piece of plywood and attaching 15 black balloons to it. My best friend is going to fill one with pink or blue glitter and we are going to shoot at it with our pistols until we hit the right one. Shes going to video tape and take pictures :)
  • I originally wanted to do a reveal party, but it kinda got out of hand. I feel really weird just having a party to find out the sex. I wanted everyone to choose a gender with either a pin or a straw in their drink, what have you, then wanted to find out. But we ended up with a guest list of close to 30 people! (DH's family is small, but my close-knit family is huge!) It kinda felt over the top to have a party where we could all fit, (reserving a local restaurant, and then catering, because there would be so many people) that I started to feel silly for bringing all these people together to open a box or bite a cupcake.

Now I'm thinking we'll take our parents and DD to our favorite pizza dive and have them put a B or a G with toppings on our pizza. We can still all find out together, but it's more intimate. Plus I get pizza, that's always a win in my book.
  • @SouthernVOL I am feeling the same way! My family is very close, but when you start to add them all up it gets a bit out of hand to throw an elaborate party just to tell them the gender... Very cute idea with the pizza! Pizza is ALWAYS a win.

My mother is set on throwing one for us, but I keep reminding her *keep it small*. DH and I are way too excited & will not be able to wait to find out later than the appointment, so it will likely be us telling everyone in some way. DH is a jokester and wants to do something that will get some laughs... Still brainstorming!
  • Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT ask this in the "Baby Shower" group if you want to keep your head  any opinions. They are very much against them and call them gift grabby attention parties. I think they're cute. I have zero idea's for you, but as mentioned there are tons of great ideas on pinterest! And lots of fun ones already listed on this thread.
  • @LDSJM123 thank you for the advice! I'm bit sure how we're going to do it yet but I'm hoping to involve cake. It will only be with our parents and siblings. I don't think there's anything wrong with finding a reason to get the family together! And I've never heard of people taking gifts so I never would've thought of that lol. We're probably just going to have our immediate families over for pizza and cake (provided by us)
  • My husband is going to dip his hands in paint and place them on my belly in the shape of a heart (I will be wearing a white shirt). We will find out once he removes his hands and have the shirt as a keepsake.
  • With DD, we had a Memorial Day cook-out with our friends. The only thing that made it a gender reveal is that I made a pink cake for dessert. Super casual, no gifts, and a "party" we would have had regardless.

Not to hijack this post, but my parents will be out of the country on an extended vacation when we find out the gender of baby #2. Any ideas for a FaceTime or long-distance gender reveal?
