Rock n play rant

LO is pretty much obsessed. It would be nice if those things rocked themselves, I am literally up half the night manually rocking it so LO stays asleep! I wish that there was a universal item that vibrates, rocks, bounces, and swings all by itself! I cannot take this stupid Rock n play anymore.

Re: Rock n play rant

  • There are rock and plays that rixk themselves, I would look into them for sanity sake. Good luck
  • Loading the player...
  • I got the fisher price automatic RnP. It has gone down drastically from $100 to about $60. DD is being rocked right now, even as I'm pumping. Mine only plays a few sounds and rocks, but there is one that also has the vibrate feature, I think it's called the Deluxe RnP.
  • Ours plugs in an rocks itself. Made by Fisher Price.
  • Mine rocks and vibrates. Sometimes I turn it on rock and he rocks to sleep. And it will quit rocking after about ten minutes with one setting.
  • Mine rocks itself as well and DD loves it! Never heard of a RNP that had to be manually rocked.
  • I don't know if mine rocks itself or not. It doesn't have a plug, but I never put batteries in it..
  • Thanks so much! I will definitely have to stop my BRU and look today. We got this one as a shower gift (wasn't on my registry) so I just thought it was the standard. Or maybe it's broken? I'm so glad to know they make ones that rocks, I'm loosing my mind lol.

There are manual versions and automatic ones. I have a bare bones model, too! Luckily my LO chills in it most of the time without constantly rocking.

The original ones don't rock or vibrate. That's what I have from my daughter 4 years ago. The newer ones have updated features.

It's funny because you would think since it's called a rock n play it would actually rock, but no, the box states "just a gentle push and the baby rocks away". Rocks away my butt. It is definitely more labor intensive than a gentle push.
  • We also have one you have to rock yourself. It has vibration, but that's it. I generally strayed away from buying the fanciest version of anything, just because for all I knew he would hate it and I'd just be throwing money away. Until the last week or so he was happy as can be to just fall asleep in the Rock and play sitting still. Now I have to rock him to sleep otherwise he just cries. And that's usually about 20-30 minutes of rocking. It's not super convenient, but not annoying enough for me to splurge on an automatic one at this point.

We have one that rocks itself upstairs in our bedroom (that's what he sleeps in at night) and we have one downstairs that just vibrates that he takes his naps in. The auto rocking one is amazing and if I could go back I would buy two of those instead of one of each because sitting there rocking it yourself sucks so bad. The auto rocker is so much nicer has much more softer fabric as well and is all around nicer than the one we have downstairs. The one we have upstairs is the Deluxe Newborn auto rock n play sleeper in safari dreams, we bought it at buybuybaby online.

Same here, I didn't even know the new ones rocked themselves. I don't think I've ever rocked it manually... both kids have loved it so much just laying/sleeping in it.

  • I saw a video for this and thought of those of you with manual rock n plays. I'm not sure how much a rock n play is, but based on the video it can be used for all kinds of things car seats, bouncers, cribs etc.

    Brilliant!!
  • Neither of my daughters have ever had to actually rock. They just like sleeping in it for the incline and the feeling of being close. DD1's RNP is from two years ago and it doesn't have any special features, not even vibrate. This LO's vibrates but she hates it. I'm glad I don't have picky rock and play babies lol. She makes up for it in other areas though.
