Too sick to exercise and going crazy?

Hey everyone. Im 10 weeks tomorrow with my first. Before I was pregnant I was always active runner/hiker/dancer and now going out of my mind. I have been way too nauseous to eat as much (especially meat) so my protein intake is slacking and making me too weak to exercise let alone be able to stand in the shower some days.

Anyone else going through this as well? Anyone know if it's safe to pick up running again in my 2nd trimester?

Re: Too sick to exercise and going crazy?

  • I've never been SUPER active, but I'm dying to get out and get some exercise. I feel so sludgey and gross because I've been sick and literally spent my last 4 days off work on the couch from the nausea.

  • I'm not throwing up but am nauseous each morning. What I've done is really scale down my workouts and focus more on Pilates or yoga or some light lifting. I've been able to get thru 30 minutes with a few breAks in between and lots of water. Helps the nausea go away and usually am good to go the rest of the day. And I hear you with the dizziness, I did almost pass out in the shower. The biggest thing I was told was to not let my temp or heart rate get to high, which is why I'm doing the lighter activities.

  • Thanks. I've tried yoga and I felt really good doing it. I'll keep it up. Used to marathon training. Muscles feel so weak. I can't wait until 2nd trimester to feel well enough to run again.

@soon2bwhalen I've heard there are some pretty good pregnancy dvds out there and I think they were mentioned in a previous post in this group last week.. I'm also waiting for the second trimester so I get some energy hopefully back. I just ordered a beachbody program called PIYo that I am going to start tomorrow. It's a combo of Pilates and yoga and is low impact but it has some cardio incorporated in it. I know I'll have to modify but at least I'll be doing something!

  • My husband has a lot of the beach body DVDs I think that's the one I tried. Just sat out on the belly exercises since I wasn't sure if it was ok to do or not.
  • I've been super fatigued, and it feels like I get out of breath easily. But I've been able to stick to walking a few miles every day. It's not too strenuous, but I still feel active.
  • I've found that working out actually makes me feel better-- it helps my nausea and gives me energy. The first 10 minutes or so are brutal, but after that I feel much, much better. I've just had to take more breaks and drink more water. Have you tried doing some easy yoga or stretching at home? It might help.

  • I have been stretching and doing yoga. It's helpinh but I think I'm going to make myself go to the gym this week. Maybe do 10 min on bike or something. I'm used to running 5 miles a day going to 0 for 10 weeks has been rough. Hopefully I get to eat more soon so I can feel confident enough to start running again :/
  • Yes me too. I can barely get through my chores let alone my 3x a week 5 mile runs I used to do. =( My doggies are getting chunky =(

  • My yoga has suffered for the same reasons. Can you make a smoothie with alternate sources of proteon?
