Trouble drinking water...

I'm about 11 weeks and for the past month or so I've been having trouble drinking plain water. I was a huge water drinker before being pregnant, I would easily drink 10 glasses a day but now it makes me want to gag. I can't drink tap water at all, I immediately throw it back up. I've tried flavored waters and I can stomach them but I just don't like the artifical sweetened taste. Any suggestions?

Re: Trouble drinking water...

  • Hey.. I just completed my 11th week. I was going through the same thing and my doctor suggested having gatorade or any electral. I used to limit it to 1 a day and hv a few sips of water. Another great way wud be to buy a water filter. See if it he

  • I use a brita water bottle that has a filter in it. I usually drink a lot of water throughout the day and having the filter on my bottle allows me to fill up anywhere and not worry. Plus it tastes way better than tap water and has ounces on the bottle so I constantly know how much im drinking. If you can't do that still. As PP said, try Gatorade. Hope it helps!
  • I do Gatorade and sometimes watered down kool-aid. I know the sugar isn't great but it's the only way I can get the water in so I figure it's better than nothing!

  • I have the same problem. I do gatorade or lemonade

  • Have you tried putting fresh fruit in the water to flavor it? It would probably taste better than the artificial kind you buy at the store
  • I second the idea of adding fruit. You can also try a fruit/herb combo. Basil, mint, etc. I love adding cucumber and lemon.
  • Same problem here - former water lover turned water hater!! I've started adding fruit or a bit of lemonade powder. Also, I recently discovered I like sparkling water! I guess the carbonation works for me. They aren't even flavored so I'm excited about that. Today's chore is to buy a case of those, lol.
  • I have been all over club soda/seltzer with lime. I am struggling with plain water too, and water with lemon or seltzer with lime has been saving me.

  • I do seltzer with a splash of cranberry juice (I buy the glass jar of 100% cranberry juice... Not the stuff they mix with Apple juice or added sugar... It's more expensive but you really only need a small amount to make it taste amazing)
  • Seltzer or lemonade. Also I've found I can tolerate really cold water so maybe it's a temperature thing?

  • I too haven't been a huge plain water fan. Someone just posted this on FB and I plan to try a few!

  • I was not drinking much water either, until I bought a case of 1.5 liter bottled water. For some reason, drinking out of a bottle is less repulsive than drinking out of a cup.
  • Thanks for all the replies! I have a Pur water filter on my kitchen sink already but unfortunately that's not helping. I have also tried the water at different temps and that's not working for me either. I'm not a huge fan of Gatorade or seltzer waters but I'll give them a shot. I like the idea of adding fruits to the water so I'm going to try that for sure. Hopefully something will help!
  • @smokemirrorz I hope something works!! You might be amazed and what you find you like now. I never used to be into the seltzer or Gatorade. Both are working ok for me!! Hormones change everything, lol.
  • We buy the Costco packs of La Croix. It's all citrus flavored bubbly water, which is awesome when I'm not feeling hot.

I agree with what some of PPs said. A bottle helps me immensely. And the water has to be super cold.
  • I'm terrible about water drinking and it has made me super sick. I've been keeping myself hydrated with mostly watered down super cold Gatorade but as of yesterday super cold (like a tray of ice cubes kind of cold) water with a few lemon slices went down well after having to go to the er the day before due to 15 hours of vomiting.... Yay first trimester! Hope you get over the hump!
  • I'm planning on making a water pitcher with lemon and mint to give it some flavor and hopefully sooth my stomach at the same time. I'll keep the pitcher in the fridge so it's super cold!! Tap water grosses me out so much ... I always could only drink water from a pitcher kept in the fridge!
