I tought it was time to start another of those threads, so we all get to know each other better. And since I am a pretty avid reader this is the first question that came to mind. Who knows maybe we can find new interesting things to read. :)

My personal favorites are The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion By J.R.R Tolkien (pretty classic choice). I am a huge fan of fantasy in general so A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini and of course Harry Potter are huge favorites of mine.
Another one that I really love and would recommend to anyone is the
Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel.
I also read a lot of Russian literature, such as
Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov and Anna Karenina have always been favorites of mine.

So I think that is enough for me lol. What about all of you?

Re: GTKY: What are you favorite books?

  • I am hugely into dystopian based books and anything to do with mythical creatures be it modern day vampire/witch or old school centaur and so on, some of my favorites would probably have to be the enclave series by Ann Aguirre (dystopian) and the incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony a fantasy series which still blows my mind when I read through them all.

  • @JSAH082215 I do enjoy dystopian fantasy books as well, but I have not read either of those! They are definitely getting added to my list :)

  • I just recently read Ready Player One. It is definitely geared towards the geek/nerd/fantasy world but it is super entertaining. I also recently read The Martian and it is so much better than the movie! Series that I love to re-read over and over are Harry Potter (duh) and the Percy Jackson series as well as the follow up series The Heroes of Olympus.

@Alyeena they are both so fantastic. Incarnations of Immortality especially. I got them from my father whose read them continuously since he was in his early 20's. It's beautifully written and is full of "OMG" moments. Surprisingly I have yet to read the Harry Potter series, though DH has read them multiple times. I think it will have to be the next one I start
  • @JSAH082215 Wow you don't meet many people these days who have not read Harry Potter. They are definitely very good books, I would really recommend you read them yes :)

  • I'm currently reading the Game of Thrones books (on book 4 now) after watching the shows.

My favorite kinda recent books are: Americanah, A Tale for the Time Being, and Swamplandia
A tiny bit older favorite books are: Infinite Jest, White Teeth, and Oryx and Crake (and loved Year of the Flood - didn't care for the 3rd as much)
Classic faves: Brave New World, 1984, Slaughterhouse Five, Handmaid's Tale, Jane Eyre

  • Yay! I was just about to start this thread.

I am currently reading Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. My genre would probably be Historical fiction or memoir. The best books I've read recently was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Husband's secret, and What Alice Forgot both by Liane Moroarity. Books that I could read over and over again are Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Pride and Prejudice, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
  • My favorite "classic" books are The Good Earth and Gone With The Wind.
My "guilty pleasures" are The Hunger Games Series, lol
I'm currently reading through the Outlander series and really enjoy it.
