Drying up at 12 weeks PP?

My little one is almost 12 weeks and the last 2-3 days I have noticed a significant decrease in my milk production. I don't nurse but I pump and I was getting 8-10oz per session every 4 or so hours. Pumping more frequently never had an effect on boosting supply.

Now I'm lucky to get 5 oz per session. I've had to dip into my freezer stash bc I'm barely making enough meal to meal. She eats 4 oz every 2-3 hours. I've tried 2 and 4 hour pumping stretches but nothing. I though maybe I got dehydrated over the holidays but I'm drinking water like crazy all day and all it's doing is making me pee like a pregnant woman. Im afraid I'm drying up. I know it happens eventually but I didn't think it would happen already. I don't know if it's had any effect but I did have a depo shot at 6 weeks PP. Anyone have any insight?

  • I also had a dip in production over the holidays. I assumed it was due to the stress of travel and maybe eating different foods than I normally do. I got home, made sure I ate and drank a bit extra and now I'm back to normal.

Have you tried lactation cookies or mothers milk tea to boost supply?

  • Check your pump parts! If the membranes look like this then it's time to replace them! Also, be sure your are eating enough protein.
  • My OB does not recommend the depo shot while EBF because she says it will drop milk supply as of now I have not set myself on any type of birth control other than condoms because I'm afraid to dry up.
  • We decided on the copper iud since it is non-hormone based because I was worried about supply issues.
  • Did you eat peppermint over the holidays? That can affect your supply.
  • Maybe try fenugreek pills? My supply dipped after I took a weekend trip w/o the baby, and fenugreek plus a lot of BFing and pumping got it back up in three days. But be warned that taking the full dose (which is what's recommended for upping your supply) will make your sweat and urine smell like maple syrup.
  • I understand the struggle. Stress will do it. At least in my experience. Have there been any major changes (going back to work or holidays etc?). The thing that worked for me was twofold: sitting myself
Down and just getting it together from a stress perspective. Be good to yourself and let go!

Second thing is fenugreek and constant nursing and/or pumping. It takes a couple
Of days. Don't watch the pump hahaha! It just stresses you. Sit
Down to pump w water, a good snack and a good show and hang out :) good luck!!!!
