Does anyone's else's bubs do this?

Why!!? Why must she does this every time! I'm a stresser and I just wish! She wouldnt insist on covering her face! Should I make her a little baby sleep mask lol

Re: Does anyone's else's bubs do this?

  • Yes! DD does this all the time! When we hold her upright after her feedings, she buries her face into our shoulder. When we hold her on her side facing us, she buries her face into our chest or crook of our arm. When in her pack n play, she rolls over and buries her face into the mattress. The only way she will sleep is if her face is buried or at least half of it is. She has a blanket that has holes in it so it's breathable and we use that so she can snuggle with that and we also have the angelcare movement and sound monitor so it alerts us if she stops breathing. We got the monitor because she spits up a lot due to reflux but it's nice to know if she gets too crazy with her blanket, it'll alert us!

I believe it's a comfort thing. I remember being little and liking to cover my face with a blanket because it felt comforting to me. Maybe it's the same for our LO's :)

  • I will sometimes give DS2 a breathable muslin blanket to cuddle with while he is falling asleep.  I stay in the room with him so I can watch and then remove it in 5 or 10 minutes when he is sleeping. If you think she is cold you can always use a sleep sack or a sleep suit to keep her warm.  Aden and Anais makes little muslin loveys that I'm pretty sure are considered safe for babies this age to use.  Please research those though, if you decide to go that route, and don't take my word for it. I think the recommendation is no blankets at all until 6 months (?) so I don't want to give bad or unsafe advice.

DS1 is 2 years and he is always trying to sleep with his blankie over his head.  It still drives me crazy but I feel a little silly about making a toddler sleep in a bed with just a fitted sheet lol.  They don't make sleep sacks that big!

  • My little guy loves covering his face with his toys or little blankets, goofball. But he sleeps in his pack n play or crib with just a fitted sheet, then sleeps in a fleece footie PJ with a cotton sleep sack over it to stay warm (or a fleece sleep sack if it's really cold). We don't let him have blankets or toys in the crib yet since it can be a safety hazard when they're this young. :)

My almost 3 year old has a blanket over her head EVERY night when we go check on her. I still wish she wouldn't do it, but we just move it.
  • Yes! Makes me so worried but she does the same thing too.
  • My LO does this during naps. I always keep a close eye on him because I'm so paranoid about it.
  • It is recommended that babies do not sleep with blankets until after one year. Look into sleep sacks and ditch the blankets!
  • I should probly note that she does this to fall asleep but I constantly move it off her face. I always always lay with her until she's asleep. I did it with my son too. I don't want her to feel abandoned!!
Once asleep the mini blanket she has on her face goes down by her hips. It's summer here in Aus so she never has a blanket on any how. Even at night it's a Muslim wrap tucked under her bassinet mattress on either side and down in line with her belly button ☺️
