Anyone else out of food ideas?

I am dying for some inspiration.  I have pretty terrible heartburn lately so I'm trying to stick to bland-ish things, but I. am. so. bored with the food I've been eating lately.  My husband is also generally working during dinner time, so I'm alone and trying to avoid just giving up and having toast or a frozen dinner.  Any easy to cook, healthy-ish, heartburn friendly ideas?  What's for dinner at your house tonight?

  • I'm all about soups and salads right now. Potato, broccoli and cheddar, chicken noodle, tomato, etc. salads are a great way for me to get in veggies and protein since you can put anything on it. I also have been craving bagel sanwiches lately, preferably breakfast style ones.

    Do you have a trader joes? I love their veggie gyozas paired with other Asian dishes. Easy to cook and delicious!

    There's also no shame in a bowl of cereal or pb&j

  • I'm practically living off of pb&j! I don't get heart burn but the acid reflux feeling in my throat is so bad with most other foods.
  • Well my 'plan' now I'm starting to feel too tired to cook was to start relying on the crockpot and make lots of stews, chilis, etc. and easy meals like pork chops with mash, spaghetti bolognese. 

    However, DH has suddenly gone on a new low carb diet to help meet his PT goals for work so I'm finding myself browsing Pinterest for new recipes. Tonight was stir fry with zucchini noodles. Actually pretty tasty but probably not heartburn friendly, I'll let you know later when I'm suffering!

    Agree with PP, no shame in cereal or toast. 
  • You can get grilled chicken and steamed rice at panda express if you're too tired to cook.

    Or you could just take zantac and then eat what you want...
  • Ha, @Mamabeagle I haven't tried Zantac yet - does it really work that well?  I've been doing Tums, which worked at first, but seem to not do anything anymore.

    I've tried it all and highly recommend zantac. You can pick it up at any grocery store or drug store.

    My heartburn stage passed and I had to get on prilosec for the acid reflux. At this stage in your pregnancy eating small portions will help too!

    Zantac makes it so I can eat. It doesn't make it so I can eat anything. I take 150mg twice a day and I can eat bland food and be ok, but if I eat anything remotely acidic I am in trouble. Jealous of all of you that say PB&J, jelly is giving me terrible heartburn!!
  • I've tried lots of things and nothing seems to work for the heartburn/reflux this late in the pregnancy. 

    food wise: small meals. that's the only thing that really helps. DH works evenings and it's just me and DS for dinner most nights. I eat a lot of wraps/burritos for dinner. I cook up a couple of chicken breasts to keep in the fridge and slice them up in tortillas with whatever else I've got: cheese, lettuce, avocado, beans, etc. Can be eaten cold like a wrap or warmed up like a burrito. Easy.
  • I've been living off of quick, easy, and generally unhealthy options. Lol. We have a deep fryer, so chicken nuggets and fries have been a hit. Scrambled eggs or breakfast sandwiches (even for dinner). Pfffttt... even ice cream has happened a time or two.

    I've given up on trying to prevent the heartburn. I'm already on omeprazole twice daily, plus I'm living off of chewy tums.
  • Tuna with pasta and veggie salad tonight was a winner for me.
  • Made this tonight! DH and I both really enjoyed it, made enough for leftover, which for me lately is key.
