Hanky Panky Time?

My first doctor appointment isn't until Jan 27 and actually don't have anyone to ask this. They never gave me the phone number to Woman's health only to my PCM.

Is it safe to continue to HIO normally or should we refrain from it until later in the pregnancy?

  • From what I've read I think it's typically considered okay. Unless you're high risk for some reason, I don't see why your doctor would advise against it. With that said I'm still a little paranoid too! Plus with all the bloating, gas, and cramps, I'm feeling super sexy these days.

  • It's safe. The only issue is if you're physically uncomfortable in certain positions or with certain symptoms. But sex this early in pregnancy is totally fine.

  • ^^^ that's priceless. Sooo my hubby and I were getting it on the day before we had a bfp...and I accidently tooted. I immediatly started lmbo, he kept it together for a minute, but we both ended up laughing until we cried. The joys of preggy sex. Smh.
  • HIO if that's what you're feeling! I've heard you can do it the whole way up until your last 4 weeks, but you'll see a doctor and get recommendations long before then. My friend swears it helped with her Braxton Hicks contractions. Doubtful, but whatever works for her, I guess?

  • I did a lot of googling on this and everything I saw said it was ok unless you are high risk.  I don't think we'll be doing it daily or anything (but that's not usually us anyways).  I have a friend who just went to her 1st apt a few weeks ago and apparently they had restrained until the 1st appt.  her dr told her there was no reason that they couldn't have had sex.  Also, from what I read online, miscarriages are caused by chromosomal disorders/things not implanting properly etc not from sex. So, there's that too.  A few of the articles I read also said that your uterine walls are pretty strong and protective of what's going on in there.
  • Do whatever feels right for you! In my first pregnancy, I was terrified something would go wrong and held out for a while after my BFP. And even when I did give in, 1st tri sex was not pleasant for me.

However, we were still having sex until the bitter end (semen has a hormone in it that supposedly helps soften the cervix and helps induce labor when you're to term). This go, I'm going for it as long as I feel like it.

Unless your doctor advises against it for some reason, you can have sex up until you go into labor. Actually, that's how pretty much every physician recommends getting labor started.
But having sex before you're ready for labor isn't going to throw you into preterm labor or anything. As long as your comfortable having sex, you're healthy, and your doctor or midwife had no problems with it, you can DTD until you go into labor.

  • @imakeeff0rts ever hear of it helping ease Braxton Hicks contractions? Lol. My friend swears by it.

No, but I guess stranger things have happened. Sex never eased my BH - and in most cases made them worse.

  • @imakeeff0rts that's what I figured but I guess if it works it works! We will see later on. Maybe I'll give it a try if I make it that far. :)

This but oh man, did it get uncomfortable last go around. This time I'm hoping I'll be less impatient to go into labor and just stay as comfortable as possible lol.

Yeah. Any time I laid on my back after about 30 weeks, I really wanted to barf. So sex got kind of complicated.

  • I went over my due date by 10 days last go-round... baby showed up day before my scheduled induction.  My OB told my husband "you got her into this.. you might be able to get her out".  So we did the deed daily from about 40 weeks on... it made zero difference.
