Excessive Urination?

Bear with me, I'll try not to make this a novel. :)

About a week and a half ago I had a yeast infection, treated with Monistat. The day or so after I started having this CONSTANT need to urinate. Like, I was peeing every hour or half an hour and it seemed like it never stopped. My first thought was UTI, so I went to the clinic and they did a dip/culture. It came back negative, but they gave me a course of antibiotics to try anyway.

I'm about 5 days into a 7 day treatment and not seeing much change.

Last night I was reading that excessive urination even before a missed period is a common sign of pregnancy. Does anyone else have any experience with this? This is my third pregnancy and it isn't something I experienced with my other two. It seems like it would be too early, but several sources are saying the same thing, so who knows?

Regardless, I'm calling the OB Monday and getting a referral for a Urologist. She mentioned a guess that it might be Interstitial Cystitis (please dear lord let that not be it).

Re: Excessive Urination?

  • I had this happen with my son and now it is happening already with this pregnancy! I have read that as hcg levels increase, it is common to have frequent urination. My doctor confirmed this during my last pregnancy too. I feel like I am peeing a lot more frequently and a lot more volume and I have to get up once or twice in the middle of the night to pee too which never happens unless I am pregnant! With my son, this symptom peaked at like 5 or 6 weeks. I remember peeing right before a movie started and then having to leave the theater to pee again because my bladder was just soo full not even an hour later. After 6 weeks, I don't think it happened so much anymore for me.

Are you having pain or burning when you pee? If not, it's probably not an infection. It's most likely related to the pregnancy.

  • Same as above I had it happen with DS and it's happening again already. I think all the bloat is putting pressure on my bladder. I've already been up to pee once or twice a night
  • No, no pain or burning. It's just that I could pee and 10 minutes later feel like I have to pee again. It's really annoying.

  • It is really annoying! This time it has started sooner for me than it did with DS...hopefully it'll get better after a few weeks for all of us. That is--until a few months from now when the baby gets big and we will all have to pee more for that reason ha!

I wake up every night twice to pee. My mother says it will only get worse further along lol.

But for now I think it is caused more than my progesterone suppositories I put in before bed (they leak out a lot so it feels as I have to go pee).

I don't mind tho, if it means I get to have a heathy baby I don't care If I never sleep more than an hour before I need to pee. :D

  • With both of my pregnancies my first clue was having to pee what felt like every five minutes, and that was before I got my BFP. I think that's probably your case but I've got my fingers crossed it is indeed pregnancy and not the thing you're dreading.

  • Yesterday (4 weeks, 5 days), I was literally peeing every 10-15 minutes over the course of 3 or 4 hours and then it finally slowed down to maybe once every few hours.  And not small amounts, either.  It was like I hadn't peed in hours every time I went.  When I weighed myself this morning, I noticed I actually lost a pound overnight, probably due to all the water weight I lost from those frequent bathroom trips.

I noticed a small increase in frequency within a couple of days of my FET and it's gotten progressively more noticeable since then.

Good luck!  Hopefully it's just one of those fun pregnancy things and not something to worry about.
